Hello everyone! Today I bring you the second part of the topic of the living dead that I promised you and as I had told you in the previous publication, I will talk about those that "could exist" which would be caused by viruses and bacteria. I hope you enjoy the content.
¿Qué tipos de zombies si podrían existir?
If you saw my previous post, the types of zombies that die and then come back as corpses to chase you to eat you, cannot exist, but there are other types of zombies that are caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites that more or less, if they could exist. If you want to know why, read on and I'll explain! c:
In nature there are several of these types of zombies and to give an example, we have the typical case of the ant and the fungus, which is a fungus that with its spores affects the ant, adheres to it, crosses its exoskeleton and from its interior begins to control it. During the following days, the fungus consumes the ant little by little and controls it so that it goes to a specific place where it (the fungus) can reproduce and start infecting more ants from the ant's body.
According to several scientific studies, the fungus does not control the ant's brain, but is affecting its muscles, making the ant practically a prisoner of its own body.
Lo anterior, ¿Podría pasar en los humanos?
Could this happen in humans?
The case of this specific fungus is what happens in the video game The Last of Ous. In the video game, this fungus managed to mutate to be able to infect humans, thus causing a kind of zombie apocalypse, where humans are trying to infect other humans with this fungus.
This can't really happen because this fungus only affects insects and it enters through the insect's exoskeleton and we humans don't have that, since we have bones and skin. Even so, in the video game, this fungus also enters through breathing by its spores, so, could it also enter the human being and control it as in the video game, the answer is no, because we have a whole system that protects us from fungal spores (the immune system).
Every day we are breathing a lot of fungal spores, in our normal life and obviously there are certain exceptions of some fungi that are toxic, but in general nothing happens to us because the immune system is always alert, also in ants, this fungus will not make this one become a zombie and bite another, it will simply make the fungus grow from it and infect another.
