Gabriel - Academic Physics teaches a lot of BS. Please realize that Erwin Schrodinger used this CAT analogy to describe the ridiculous outcome of the Born Rule of Quantum Mechanics. The Copenhagen/Gottingen interpretation of Erwin's own equation, i.e. the Born Rule, was just wrong. Schrodinger's equation is NOT Quantum Mechanics, but rather Schrodinger's Wave Mechanics. Academic Physicists just flat out lie about it. Here is a link to Erwin's paper where the Schrodinger's Cat idea was published. It is only 1 small paragraph that described the analogy of how silly the Probabilistic Interpretation (Born Rule) becomes when applying it to nature (and the now famous "wave function collapse"):
