Many could recklessly lose three dollars in an instant and would not even think of it twice. In 2024, though, there are around 839 million people (that is 10.3% of the whole global population) in extreme poverty, who live on that amount each day. Just recently, the World Bank employed a new survey method, which gave them a better understanding of who is most in need. They have added new survey data from countries like Nigeria, and the results have shown a slight decline in extreme poverty projected by 2025. Let's not forget that these are the people who skipped meals and walked miles to get clean water each day.
Poverty is not the same in all areas. Like Sub-Saharan Africa, the poverty is rampant, and almost 50% of its population is in poverty, while other regions have improved, but their unstable economy, conflicts and climate have slowed the progress. Many families in some areas rely on farming and other jobs that are not reliable. One example was when I was a child, I lived in a farming village, and we experienced drought, where many farmers lost their crops. Because of this, some children in the area went weeks without proper food.
There are many ways to tackle poverty. For example, people in the area can help with community programs. Also, the Government can provide social support and create employment programs.
