... is barely killing anybody. That is the case, by all indications: while proper statistical studies put the CFR (Case Fatality Rate) of COVID-19 at about 0.2%-1%, Omicron for awhile had no deaths officially attributed to it all. It was officially reported to the WHO on 24 November 2021 and as of 4 December the WHO had no record of anyone having died of it.
By now a few people have actually died from it, which is sad on the human level - but these numbers are statistically insignificant. Read the materials below, do your own research - but once you have, I strongly believe you are going to come to the same conclusion I have - this variant we are all expected to fear is, in terms of its severity, nothing more than a common cold. And then the next question, logically, would be - why are we expected to fear it?
