Nony es una gata muy tranquila, normalmente siempre está en la alfombra de la puerta de entrada de la casa de unos amigos que recientemente me dieron hospedaje en un lugar campestre. Desde que llegamos le tomé mucho cariño a Nony ya que me recordaba a mi gato. Estuve aproximadamente dos mese en una zona montañosa lejos de mis padres y además de extrañarlos a ellos también extrañaba a mi gatito Sony.
Como me gustan los gatos no fue difícil interactuar con Nony y llegar a quererla. Aunque Nony es tranquila, también se caracteriza por ser una valiente cazadora. Ya la había visto cazando saltamontes muy grandes, arañas, cucarachas pero me sorprendió cuando una tarde al llegar a la casa la consigo comiéndose una culebra.
Nony is a very quiet cat, she is usually always on the carpet at the front door of the house of some friends who recently gave me lodging in a country place. From the moment we arrived I became very fond of Nony as she reminded me of my cat. I spent about two months in a mountainous area far from my parents and besides missing them I also missed my kitty Sony.
Because she likes cats it was not difficult to interact with Nony and grow to love her. Although Nony is quiet, she is also characterized by being a brave hunter. I had already seen her hunting big grasshoppers, spiders, cockroaches, but I was surprised when one afternoon when I arrived home I caught her eating a snake.
La verdad es que desde lejos la señora que estaba conmigo divisó de una vez a Nony con la culebra pero yo no podía ver bien, así que cuando me acerqué me sorprendí muchísimo. Resulta que los trabajadores cercanos vieron a Nony cazando la culebra pero como vieron que era grande, ellos mismos la mataron y la cortaron en dos. Nony aprovecho y comenzó a comerse la culebra. Yo jamás había visto esto, mi gato también ha cazado culebras pero no se las come. Una vez cazó una y se la colocó a mi mamá en la cocina como para que la viera y se sintiera orgullosa y también sé de otros gatos que las cazan pero no se las comen. Este no fue el caso de Nony, ella se comió media culebra.
The truth is that from far away the lady who was with me spotted Nony with the snake at once but I could not see well, so when I got closer I was very surprised. It turns out that the workers nearby saw Nony hunting the snake but as they saw that it was big, they killed it themselves and cut it in two. Nony took advantage and began to eat the snake. I had never seen this before, my cat has also hunted snakes but he doesn't eat them. Once he caught one and put it in the kitchen for my mom to see and make her proud, and I also know of other cats that hunt them but don't eat them. This was not the case with Nony, she ate half a snake.
Cuando me acerqué a tomarle fotos, enseguida tomo su presa y se alejó. Los gatos son muy reservados y caprichosos, ellos prefieren comer a solas, se sienten más cómodos si no hay personas a sus alrededores, así que tome las fotos que pude para respetar su privacidad. Llegué a pensar que Nony comería solo un poquito pero se dio un gran banquete con esta serpiente. Los trabajadores cercanos mencionaron que está serpiente no era venenosa, sin embargo, desde ese momento comencé a ser más precavida a la hora de caminar por los alrededores de la casa.
When I approached him to take pictures, he immediately took his prey and walked away. Cats are very reserved and capricious, they prefer to eat alone, they feel more comfortable if there are no people around, so I took as many pictures as I could to respect their privacy. I came to think that Nony would eat just a little bit but he had a great feast with this snake. The nearby workers mentioned that this snake was not poisonous, however, from that moment on I started to be more cautious when walking around the house.
Algo que me daba tranquilidad durante el tiempo que estuve de vacaciones en la montaña fue que Nony no se quitaba de la puerta, la casa es toda cerradita y teniendo a Nony en la entrada sentía tranquilidad ya que las personas de la zona dicen que las culebras venenosas salen es de noche. Aunque este es el decir popular de aquella zona, yo igual le tengo miedo a cualquier serpiente, sea que salga de día o de noche y más aún porque conocí a dos señores que le habían amputado una pierna por una mordedura de serpiente.
Something that gave me peace of mind during the time I was on vacation in the mountains was that Nony did not leave the door, the house is all closed and having Nony at the entrance I felt calm because the people of the area say that poisonous snakes come out at night. Although this is the popular saying in that area, I am still afraid of any snake, whether it comes out during the day or at night and even more so because I met two men who had a leg amputated due to a snake bite.
Aunque estuve con mucha precaución en aquella zona, es decir, no salía de noche, miraba bien hacia donde pisaba y teníamos un machete a la mano, lo que más me daba tranquilidad es que Nony estuviera conmigo. Los gatos son animales muy especiales cuando sienten el cariño que les das y en recompensa por eso pueden cuidarte hasta de una forma sorprendente. Aunque se me acabaron las vacaciones, jamás olvidaré a la hermosa gata que fue mi guardiana.
Although I was very cautious in that area, that is, I did not go out at night, I watched where I was stepping and we had a machete at hand, what gave me peace of mind was that Nony was with me. Cats are very special animals when they feel the affection you give them and in return they can take care of you even in a surprising way. Although my vacation is over, I will never forget the beautiful cat who was my guardian.
