Marimar
The year 2020 was beginning, my husband was returning from Zaraza – Edo Guárico in Venezuela, when he surprised me with a gift sent to me by his grandmother, Mrs. Carmen whom I never met, but who by references of him was a great person, my gift? a little morrocoya of 5 years, from that moment began the company of taking care of her and learning to live with her and for her.
The first thing I did was to publish in the Whatsapp group of the family the news and the photos, asking them to help me name it, because in the family all the members have their own name and so it went from being one more morrocoyita to being Marimar.
Marimar loves to be at the feet of the members of my house, it seems that she does not like loneliness and comes out of her hiding places to participate in family gatherings, climbs on our feet, lowers them, surrounds them and even bites them -gently-.
She walks a lot throughout the day and on several occasions she has been left with her paws up trying to turn again, thank God and that she is almost always accompanied and we manage to turn her over in time (turtles / morrocoy tend to suffocate if they spend prolonged time with the shell against the floor).
Despite being in an environment perhaps not suitable for her, since we live in a house without a patio in the City of Caracas, she has adapted quite well, she has a large space where she can walk, without running the risk of getting lost in the house or being turned over.
For a person like me, who had never had the responsibility of taking care of an animal, every day became a learning, even though the morrocoy / turtle does not interact in the same way that our furry friends do, they have a particular way of making themselves understood, today, after 2 years, I know that when he walks in circles endlessly he wants to eat and that he prefers to be fed in the mornings very early, he likes a bath with warm water every other day or more.
Among the foods he prefers are: Tomato, Lechoza, Parsley, Coriander, Banana, Auyama, Calabazin, Cucumber, but mainly he loves chicken – steamed of course.
Nowadays, I can assure you that having a pet is to live an adventure every day, it is to learn to live together, to give it a physical and moral space in the life of the family and above all to pour all the love into a living being that needs it.
I LOVE MY PETS!!!
