A couple of days ago, my husband and I went to visit my mother. She lives miles away, so we left home early, and that usually means we're gone for 10 to 12 hours.

Whenever I go to visit her, I make preparations the night before, and my main concern is leaving my pets alone for so long. Personally, I think 12 hours is too long, especially since my dog ​​is getting old and needs more care than when he was younger. He used to come with us, but now that our cat, Mitchu, has joined us, we prefer they keep each other company until we get there.

• Hace un par de días mi esposo y yo salimos a visitar a mi madre, ella vive a kilómetros de distancia por ese motivo salimos temprano de casa y normalmente eso nos ausenta de 10 a 12 horas.

• Siempre que voy a visitarla hago preparativos la noche anterior, y mi principal preocupación es el dejar solas a mis mascotas por tanto tiempo, personalmente me parece que 12 horas es mucho, sobre todo porque mi perrito está ancianito y necesita de más cuidados que cuando estaba joven, antes él se iba con nosotros, pero ahora que nuestra minina Mitchu llego a nuestro hogar preferimos que se hagan compañía mientras nosotros llegamos.

I would love to take my pets with me everywhere, but Mom is sick, and it's not a good idea to take them because my focus is on taking care of her. So, what I do is leave everything ready for them: their food, water, and a light on.

When we have to be gone for so many hours, I ask God to protect them until we get back. Maybe some people will say I'm exaggerating, that they're just animals. Yes, they are animals, but they have needs just like any of us.

That day we went to visit Mom, my dog ​​had a bit of an upset stomach, and even though it wasn't serious, I left feeling very worried, knowing I might find something unusual at home. And that's exactly what happened. When we returned, Sortario and Mitchu were glued to the door waiting for us, as they always do. But this time there was something else, something unpleasant: Sortario, our dog, had peed and pooped inside the house. I wasn't upset; I just immediately started cleaning everything up with my husband's help.

How could I be upset? I couldn't; I was exhausted. But my little dog needed me too, and I have the full responsibility of caring for him and treating him with patience. After cleaning everything in the house, I set about cleaning them. My cat hadn't gotten dirty at all. When she sees poop and pee, she doesn't go near it, although she's always very curious. But Sortario did have pee on his paws. I cleaned him, gave them lots of cuddles, and then fed them.

For many years, I've understood that having a pet is a huge blessing because they fill our home with joy, but they are also a great responsibility. It's like taking care of children. Animals will always be innocent; they depend on us: food, keeping them groomed and clean, taking them to the vet when necessary, providing them with a place where they feel happy. Our mood also affects them; they feel. That's why, when we adopt a pet, we must be aware that they are living beings with needs very similar to our own.

• Me encantaría llevar a mis mascotas siempre conmigo, pero mamá está enferma y no es muy buena idea llevarlos porque en ese momento mi foco está en cuidar de ella, entonces lo que hago es dejarles todo preparado, su comida, agua, y una luz encendida.

• Cuando tenemos que ausentarnos por tantas horas le pido a Dios que los proteja mientras llegamos, a lo mejor algunos dirán que exagero, que solo son animales, si, la verdad son animales, pero con necesidades como cualquiera de nosotros.

• Ese día que fuimos a visitar a mamá, mi perrito estaba un poco mal del estómago y aunque no era grave me fui con mucha preocupación consiente que me podía conseguir con alguna novedad en casa, y así fue, cuando regresamos estaban Sortario y Mitchu pegados a la puerta esperándonos como siempre lo hacen, pero esta vez había algo más y desagradable, Sortario nuestro perrito se había hecho pipi y popo dentro de la casa, no me molesté, solo me puse de inmediato a limpiar todo con la ayuda de mi esposo.

• ¿Como molestarme? no puedo, yo venía agotada, pero mi perrito también me necesitaba y tengo toda la responsabilidad de cuidarle y tratarle con paciencia, después de limpiar todo en casa, me dispuse a limpiarlos a ellos, mi gatita no se había ensuciado con nada, ella cuando ve popo y pipi no se acerca mucho, aunque siempre es muy curiosa, pero Sortario si tenía pipi por las patitas, lo limpié, les hice muchos mimos y después les di de comer.

• Desde hace muchos años entendí que si iba a tener mascota, es una bendición enorme porque ellos llenan de alegría nuestro hogar, pero también son una gran responsabilidad, es como cuidar de los niños, los animales siempre serán inocentes, ellos dependen de nosotros, alimentación, mantenerlos peinados, limpios, llevarlos al veterinario cuando sea necesario, tenerles un lugar para que se sientan felices, nuestro ánimo también les afecta, ellos sienten, por eso cuando adoptemos a una mascota tengamos conciencia de que son seres vivos, tienen necesidades muy parecidas a las nuestras.
