    Hoy vengo con ustedes por un motivo muy especial y es que a través de esta ventana quiero presentar ante Hive a mi pequeña gatita de tan solo 3 meses y medio de nacida. Más que una mascota ya puedo decir que es parte importante de mi familia por lo que es para mí como mi hija. Me gustaría contarles un poco como fue que Mara y yo nos conocimos y de cómo llego a nuestras vidas; así que si tienes unos minutos puedes leer a continuación.

Today I come with you for a very special reason and that is that through this window I want to introduce to Hive my little kitten of only 3 and a half months old. More than a pet, I can already say that she is an important part of my family and for me she is like my daughter. I would like to tell you a little bit about how Mara and I met and how she came into our lives, so if you have a few minutes you can read below.

Bienvenida “Mara” a nuestras vidas.

    Conocí a Mara el 16 de Diciembre cuando llegamos a casa de mi suegra, de inmediato hicimos clic y pregunte varias cosas sobre ella; la gatica estaba recién llegada a la casa y la habían adoptado ya que la mamá había tenido 3 gatitos y a consecuencia de esto no los podía amamantar porque fue diagnosticada con preclamsia. La dueña de inmediato no supo que hacer y lo primero que se le vino a la mente era que tenía que regalar a los gatitos para que no se murieran de hambre. Nunca pude imaginarme que los gatos sufren enfermedades como los humanos y el tratamiento en una clínica es súper costoso.

Welcome "Mara" into our lives.

I met Mara on December 16th when we arrived at my mother-in-law's house, we immediately clicked and I asked several things about her; the kitten had just arrived at the house and she had been adopted since her mother had had 3 kittens and as a consequence she couldn't breastfeed them because she was diagnosed with preclamsia. The owner immediately did not know what to do and the first thing that came to her mind was that she had to give the kittens away so they would not starve to death. I could never imagine that cats suffer from diseases like humans and the treatment in a clinic is very expensive.

    Pues bien, así llego esta minina a esta casa donde la alimentaron y le dieron los cuidados necesarios, como por ejemplo desparasitarla. Por suerte mi cuñada es veterinaria y sabe mucho al respecto. Todos decían que la gata era loca y mala, de echo cuando pregunté en varias oportunidades por su nombre nadie lo supo decir, solo algunos le decían maléfica porque ponía cara de mala cuando se ponía a jugar.

Well, that's how this kitten arrived at this house where she was fed and given the necessary care, such as deworming. Luckily my sister-in-law is a veterinarian and knows a lot about it. Everybody said that the cat was crazy and bad, in fact when I asked her name several times nobody could say it, only some people called her evil because she made a bad face when she started to play.

    El día antes de venirnos tomé la decisión final y me la traje. Todo estaba preparado, una caja, un paño, bolsas, y algo para sujetarla y que la gata no se fuera a salir. En mi país hay un dicho que dice “Una cosa es la que piensa el burro y otra el que arriba lo arrea” yo pensaba que todo iba a salir bien pero la gatita nunca quiso quedarse dentro de la caja y como era tan chiquita se salía con facilidad. No nos quedó más remedio que dejarla suelta en el carro teniendo cuidado que nos fuera hacia el lado del conductor (mi esposo) en el camino la pasábamos de mano en mano, de pierna en pierna, un rato dormía, otro rato nos mordía y así íbamos avanzando.

The day before coming, I made the final decision and I brought her with me. Everything was prepared, a box, a cloth, bags, and something to hold her so that the cat would not get out. In my country there is a saying that goes "One thing is what the donkey thinks and another is what the person on top ploughs it" I thought that everything was going to be fine but the kitten never wanted to stay inside the box and as she was so small she got out easily. We had no choice but to let her loose in the car being careful that she went to the driver's side (my husband) on the way we passed her from hand to hand, from leg to leg, a while she slept, another time she bit us and so we were moving forward.

    La recomendación de mi cuñada era que le diéramos poca agua y poca comida hasta llegar a la casa. Para los que no saben un viaje desde el Táchira hasta Guatire dura unas 15 horas.

My sister-in-law's recommendation was to give her little water and little food until we got home. For those who do not know, a trip from Táchira to Guatire takes about 15 hours.

El nombre “Mara”

    En todo el trayecto me puse a pensar que nombre le podíamos poner, no me gustaba para nada el nombre maléfica, ni loca le pongo ese nombre. Luego de un rato nos detuvimos a comer y mi hijo le decía mala, así que cambie la L por la R y se quedó MARA para siempre. A todos les gustó el nombre y así el cariño fue creciendo poco a poco.

During the whole trip I was thinking about what name we could give her, I didn't like the name "maléfica" at all, I wouldn't even give her that name. After a while we stopped to eat and my son called her mala, so I changed the L for the R and she stayed MARA forever. Everyone liked the name and so the affection grew little by little.

    Apenas llegamos a casa (7 de la noche) corte la caja que había traído y por suerte tenia arena de playa que había recogido en mi último viaje (la uso para mis manualidades). Fue increíble la felicidad y tranquilidad que sentimos cuando vimos que Mara había hecho en aquella arena su primera necesidad y desde entonces no he tenido preocupación en ese aspecto.

    Hasta ahora todos hemos colaborado en casa para que la gata no de problemas, la casa se mantiene limpia, come a su hora, la consentimos, la sacamos un rato afuera al jardín del edificio y cambiamos la arena cada 3 días.

As soon as we got home (7 pm) I cut the box I had brought with me and luckily I had some beach sand that I had collected on my last trip (I use it for my crafts). It was incredible the happiness and tranquility we felt when we saw that Mara had made in that sand her first need and since then I have had no worries in that aspect.

So far we have all collaborated at home so that the cat doesn't cause problems, the house is kept clean, she eats on time, we spoil her, we take her outside for a while in the garden of the building and we change the litter every 3 days.

Los vecinos y Mara

    Gracias a Dios tengo unos vecinos amables y cariñosos que me han ayudado cada vez que mara se me escapa, todos me han dado ideas para protegerla. Al principio se escapaba a todos lados y cuando yo escuchaba que gritaban “Carolina” ya sabía que Mara se había escapado.

Thank God I have kind and loving neighbors who have helped me every time Mara escapes, they have all given me ideas on how to protect her. At first she would run away everywhere and when I heard them yelling "Carolina" I knew Mara had escaped.

La gata fugitiva

    Hace unas noches mi esposo cerró la puerta de la casa para irnos a dormir y sin darse cuenta Mara se quedó afuera, eran casi las 10:30 de la noche cuando llegaron tocando el timbre, de inmediato me levanté un poco asustada y al abrir la puerta todos nos echamos a reír. Mara estaba en los brazos de mi amigo anda quien gracias a Dios se asomó por la ventana y la vio entre las matas. El y su familia bajaron calladitos, la intentaron agarrar y ella salió corriendo y se fue hacia la puerta de mi casa nuevamente donde ellos la pudieron tomar entre mis matas. Cuando ellos me contaron eso me dio alegría porque eso quiere decir que ya está creciendo y sabe a dónde debe volver.

A few nights ago my husband closed the door of the house to go to sleep and without realizing it Mara stayed outside, it was almost 10:30 at night when they came ringing the doorbell, I immediately got up a little scared and when I opened the door we all burst out laughing. Mara was in the arms of my friend Anda who thank God looked out the window and saw her in the bushes. He and his family came down quietly, tried to grab her and she ran out and went to the door of my house again where they were able to grab her in my bushes. When they told me that made me happy because that means she is growing up and knows where she has to go back to.

    No sé qué opinen ustedes al respecto, pero aquí me gusta contar las cosas como son para ver que me pueden aconsejar. Mara no tiene cama fija, aunque he tratado de enseñarla para que duerma en la sala por la noches, no lo he lograrlo. Así que duerme en mi cuarto prácticamente todas las noches acobijada en nuestros pies.

I don't know what you think about it, but here I like to tell it like it is to see what you can advise me. Mara doesn't have a fixed bed, although I have tried to teach her to sleep in the living room at night, I haven't been able to do it. So she sleeps in my room practically every night cuddled up on our feet.

Conociendo a Mara

    Creo que Mara sigue creciendo, la gente me dice que ella aun es una niña y por eso juega mucho, duerme mucho y come mucho; pero me dicen que todo va cambiando a medida que va creciendo. Ya Mara tiene un mes con nosotros y estamos encantados con ella. Hace unos días hubo una reunión en mi casa, había varias personas y creo que no pudo descansar como está acostumbrada. Por este motivo supongo que al día siguiente no quería despertarse y durmió casi todo el día, yo me acosté también un rato como a las dos de la tarde y me levanté a las 4 pero ella seguía durmiendo, luego se hicieron las 5, las 6 y ahí sí que me asusté muchísimo porque no había manera ni forma que reaccionara de manera normal como es ella.

    Les confieso que me hizo llorar, pensé que le había pasado algo, que se estaba muriendo y lo único que se me ocurría era hablarle y rogarle que se despertara, se me ocurrió ponerle su cena y fue la única forma de que reaccionara un poco y jugara un rato conmigo, pero otra vez se echó a dormir. En verdad que esto me preocupó bastante, pero cuando llegaron mi esposo y mis hijos la llevaron afuera un rato y jugaron con ella y al verla tan contenta por fin pude descansar.

Getting to know Mara

I think Mara is still growing, people tell me that she is still a child and that's why she plays a lot, sleeps a lot and eats a lot; but they tell me that everything is changing as she grows. Mara has been with us for a month now and we are very happy with her. A few days ago there was a meeting at my house, there were several people and I think she could not rest as she is used to. For this reason I guess that the next day she did not want to wake up and slept almost all day, I also went to bed for a while at about two in the afternoon and I got up at 4 but she was still sleeping, then it was 5, 6 o'clock and then I got really scared because there was no way or form that she reacted in a normal way as she is.

I confess that it made me cry, I thought that something had happened to her, that she was dying and the only thing I could think of was to talk to her and beg her to wake up, I thought of putting her dinner and it was the only way to get her to react a little and play with me for a while, but again she went back to sleep. This really worried me a lot, but when my husband and children arrived, they took her outside for a while and played with her and seeing her so happy, I was finally able to rest.

    Es increíble cómo nos podemos encariñar con un animalito que recién conocemos, ella ya es mi hija gatuna y desde ya ocupa un lugar especial en mi hogar y en mi corazón. Espero que desde ahora forme también parte de esta familia en Hive y participemos de muchas actividades juntos.

It is incredible how we can get attached to an animal that we just know, she is already my cat daughter and from now on she has a special place in my home and in my heart. I hope that from now on she will also be part of this family in Hive and we will participate in many activities together.
