Hello Hivers!
Let me tell you a story about my #sunconure
Meet Mongo! His name used to be spelt Mango, but we usually talk to him in Cantonese (where 🥭 is pronounced more like mongo than mango) and we didn't want to confuse him.
We got him as a baby, maybe 2-3 months old. Oh the stories I could tell, if I only knew how to put it in words.
Since we already started with names, I'll be honest, he wasn't supposed to be named after a fruit. You see, we got him around Christmas last year
a bird that came to our family for Christmas. I was going to name him Turkey🦃
I couldn't do it. It was as though he knew what being a Turkey would mean, and he would give me the silent treatment. After going through a few more names, we noticed he would respond to Mongo. I suppose some really pick their own names.
He was so young when we got him, he was still being fed formula. He has a special talent of getting 98% of formula everywhere except his beak. We did notice that he was willing to try all kinds of dry food, so.... we stopped adding warm water to the formula and fed him the powder mixed with pellets. I'll never forget the way the looked like an addict with white powder all over his face. I never managed to take a picture of it, this is when he was already getting better at eating powder:
We have a cage that is never locked, he is always free to move around our house. Perhaps it's because he hasn't been around other birds much, he doesn't quite understand his wings yet.
Mongo has a very strict routine and a strong opinion. Once he knows we're awake, he will:
His most prized possessions include:
When we plan on being away from home for too long during daylight, we bring him to his friend.
Let me know if you guys wanna see more, and of what :)
