It's been a while since I showed off Phil my guinea pig so I'll be doing that today and throwing in some edits that I did on the photos that I took. Phil is a silver agouti guinea pig and silver agouti refers to the color of his fur.
Phil became a part of our family approximately three and a half years ago. Most people who know me on here know that I love cats but guinea pigs are actually my favorite pet and first love as far as animals. I got my first guinea pig when I was about seven years old and his name was Popeye. I've had many since then and lost my very favorite little pig when I was a teenager which was a long time ago but I still think about him and cherish the fond memories I have of him.
Phil is actually short for Philadelphia which is where my daughter got him for me for my birthday since he looks very much like my favorite little pig that passed away when I was a teen. Even though his name is Phil I tend to call him other names as well.
Phil definitely looks like my favorite pig but Phil is a nipper which is very out of the ordinary for a guinea pig. He is also prone to seizures if he gets overly stimulated so, unfortunately, I can't hold him like I would like to. He still gets held is small increments and he gets lots of pets.
It may sound silly but I also sing to him! Not like full songs or anything but just a little made up sing song and he seems to like it. Sometimes he will even flatten out or lie down when I'm petting him and sing or speak softly to him. He has even gotten a little better with nipping and isn't quite so bad now.
Phil gets pellets made specifically for guinea pigs and fresh water. The pellets look much like rabbit pellets but have vitamin C which guinea pigs need. In addition he gets Timothy hay and an assortments of treats. I give him a small treat a couple of times a day and at night he gets a baby carrot and a romaine leaf. I'm not saying that he is a spoiled little pig but he does know when he is suppose to get that carrot and romaine and will let us know by "wheeking"!
I do have to take Phil to a vet soon. He should have a wellness check and I need to get his nails trimmed. I've been able to trim his nails some but because of his nipping and his fidgeting about he sure makes it difficult. I've had trouble trimming two of his nails but a vet can trim them all down to where they should be. I did learn of another way to handle him by watching Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue on YouTube. I also watch Scotty's Animals. Scotty also works at the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue. It is usually good to have a pair of guinea pigs but Phil is a single boy and always has been. Do you want to see a baby picture I took of him when I got him?! He sure was cute and now he is a handsome pig!
So, the only thing different from my last update on Phil is that he has gotten a little better with his nipping and he's gotten a little older and I'll be taking him to see a vet soon and he's still pretty adorable! I put some more edits that I did into this very short slideshow ...
Thanks for reading and watching and catching up with Phil. He really is a lovable pig even if he is a little nipper. I love him regardless and I think he maybe even loves me too! 💖
