When Oreo arrived home one of the first things we did was to consult with the veterinarian about his diet. The vet suggested us to feed him exclusively a food rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins, which is known as "lecherina". He also told us that during the first 3 months of his life we should not include new foods in his diet.
Cuando Oreo llegó a casa una de las primeras cosas que hicimos fue asesorarnos con el médico veterinario en cuanto a su alimentación. El veterinario nos sugirió darle exclusivamente un alimento rico en vitaminas, minerales y proteínas que se conoce como "lecherina". También nos dijo que durante los 3 primeros meses de vida no debíamos incluir nuevos alimentos a su dieta.
I was led by the idea that rabbits eat carrots, at least the cartoons make us think that this is so, and since Oreo is already more than 3 months old, today I wanted to give him a little carrot to try.
What was my big surprise? he didn't like it at all, he barely nibbled it a little bit.
I insisted several times that he eat it, and he always preferred to eat the herbs in the garden, rather than the carrot.
Llevada por la idea de que los conejos comen zanahorias, al menos los dibujos animados nos hacen pensar que eso es así, y dado que ya Oreo tiene más de 3 meses de vida, hoy quise darle a probar un poco de zanahoria.
¿Cuál fué mi gran sorpresa? a él no le gustó para nada, apenas si la mordisqueó un poco.
Insistí en varias oportunidades en que la comiera, y él siempre prefiririó comer las hierbas del jardín, en vez de la zanahoria.
Really surprised by Oreo's reaction to the carrot, I decided to investigate a little about it, I even asked myself:
what's wrong with this bunny, why is he so weird?
Well, it happens that my dear Oreo is not weird at all, the truth is that apparently, only Bugs Bunny loves to eat carrots because the vast majority of rabbits in real life do not like them. They will always prefer to eat their healthy food "lecherina" and nibble the herbs in the garden.
In fact, today I found out that it is not even healthy for rabbits to include carrots in their diet, because as these are rich in sugars, they can cause digestive problems and obesity in rabbits, how about this?
Realmente sorprendida por la reacción de Oreo con respecto a la zanahoria, decidí investigar un poco al respecto, incluso llegué a preguntarme:
¿Qué pasa con este conejito, por qué él es tan raro?
Pues resulta que mi querido Oreo no es nada raro, la verdad es que al parecer solo a Bugs Bunny le fascina comer zanahoria, porque a la gran mayoría de los conejos de la vida real, no les gusta. Ellos siempre van a preferir comer su sano alimento "lecherina" y mordiquear las hierbas del jardín.
De hecho, hoy me enteré que ni siquiera resulta saludable para los conejos incluir zanahorias en su dieta, porque al ser éstas ricas en azúcares, pueden provocar en los conejos problemas digestivos y de obesidad ¿qué tal esto?
Bugs Bunny kept me fooled to this day, I would have sworn that carrots were the rabbits' favorite food, the healthiest and most appetizing... something similar already happened to me with Paul and bananas, but that's another story I'll tell you later.
