Esta semana ha sido muy linda y con nuevas sorpresas, pues ha nacido una de muchas (Chelonoidis carbonaria), o como la conocemos en Venezuela, muchos morrocoyes.
Hace unos meses atrás, se aparearon algunos que tengo en casa.
La madre cavó un pequeño hoyo de poco mas de 20 cm, aunque ahora solo he encontrado a esta pequeña sé que hay otros, pues lo común es que estás coloquen un poco más de 5 huevos en cada puesta.
Me llamo la atención es que saliera ahora en estas fechas, pues lo común es que estos nazcan en septiembre.

Particularmente me gusta este tipo de especie, ya que existen muchas otras parecidas, pero esta es muy tranquila, es decir, su hábitat no es tan exigente en cuanto a clima o comida, por que ellas son muy adaptables a su entorno.
Pensé en un momento en dejarlas en un lugar apartado y en libertad, pero es visto en muchos lugares, que las tienen como mascotas, pero las condiciones en que las tienen son poco limpias y están encerradas en un pequeño lugar.
Por ahora, ellas están solas y libres en el patio de mi casa.

Está especie es totalmente herbívora y carroñera.
Su alimentación no es del todo exigente, pero ellas escogen la clase de alimento que les gusta, por lo que son un poco selectivas.
Como en casa tengo otros animales que son herbívoros también, aprovecho y les traigo hojas de batatas que les gusta pues tienen mucho nutrientes.
También les gusta la verdolaga, cilantro, apio, acelga, tréboles, pétalos de flores (especialmente rojas y amarillas), dientes de león, y así por estilo, claro, como he dicho, son selectivas, por lo que en su hábitat natural pueden escoger cualquiera, pero si las tienes en casa, es mejor ver que tipo de alimento le resulta mas rico.
Además. les encantan las frutas.
Desde mangos, guanábanas, patillas , lechosas y otras variedades.
Eh visto que muchas personas les dan comida cocida, pero esto no es del todo saludable.
¿Cómo saber si estás saludables?
Si su caparazón es liso, tiene buena alimentación, si es piramidal , en cambio un caparazón no liso y piramidal es síntoma de una mala alimentación y principalmente falta de calcio.
Por lo general, muchas personas las descuidan y no les ponen agua, incluso, pueden pasar semanas así, pero su capacidad de producir saliva para tragar es muy poca, por lo que colocarle agua junto con la comida, le ayuda en gran medida a su nutrición.
