I love bunnies, they are my favorite animals and I can say that almost all my life I have had pet bunnies. The last few years I haven't had bunnies, for reasons that are out of my hands. On several occasions, my rabbits had offspring, but I was only able to photograph one of those opportunities since there were no digital cameras, or at least not on this side of the globe.
Baby bunnies are some of the most tender things in this world. Having the opportunity to carry one around when they are little makes you fall in love with the rabbits hehe. The first thing you should know is that the average gestation time for bunnies is 30 days. Once the bunny gives birth, in a few days it can become pregnant. This is important to keep in mind because in a short time you can have many many bunnies if they are being raised in freedom.
In particular, I usually buy female bunnies and at one point, I present them with a male bunny so that they fall in love and the rest is a private matter. The first thing I can tell you about a female rabbit's mating period is that she rides the male to tell him that she's ready. This caused us confusion in the family at first because we thought the bunny was a male. Then, thanks to a documentary on NatGeo, we learned that it is part of the natural process of the bunnies.

At that time we were not aware of the details of the rabbit's gestation, so we were taken by surprise by several things. When the rabbit is in the middle of its gestation period, it begins to grow excess hair on its neck. A pregnant rabbit looks very cute with her hair ball on her neck. This hairball will be the rabbits bed when the rabbit is about to give birth. I call it an act of love, the rabbit begins to bite off the hairball to place it in its burrow and then go into labor.

This was incredibly beautiful, to see what a bunny is capable of doing for its young that are about to be born. Since we had a home-style cage for the rabbit, I had to put a cave-type box on it so that it could give birth peacefully. I remember the day my rabbit had its little bunnies, it was night and I was going to give it food, some vegetables that I had chopped up especially for her. When I arrived at the patio, I heard it making strange noises and I saw the bunny full of blood. I jumped out of the excitement, because that day a nephew was also being born. The labor lasted about an hour, and I sat there on the slope.

After giving birth, my bunny was very tired. I held her, gave her love and practically put food in her mouth. It was a special moment for me that I remembered as if it were yesterday. The following days were a learning experience for me. I was surprised to see how my bunny took the little rabbits out to get some sun, pushed them with her little legs and if any of them went too far, she would put them back in the box. She would just push the bunnies to the door. I loved this, I could sit for hours watching her spend time with her kids and help them.

At only one month old, the bunnies are already hairy and look like a ball. They are very very playful and want to jump and run around. Since they already have teeth, the time to breastfeed them is a difficult time.My rabbit would make noises in pain, but she would let them eat. This particular bunny was very special; other bunnies I had did not breastfeed their young and I had to give them some supplements.

I would have loved to have had a good camera at that time, but I have the perfect excuse to have bunnies again and see them have kids. Motherhood is a very beautiful time and when you live it with your pets, it becomes something more special. After 4 months of having bunnies jumping around the house, my bunny gave birth to 6 bunnies, we gave them up for adoption in different families. If you've ever seen motherhood in the bunnies, tell me about your experience.

I took these pictures in 2009 with a Sony Erickson k310 phone. Sorry for the low quality, the technology had not evolved much at that time
