Hi Hive Lovers
I found an oddity today, namely a small weasel whose fur is golden yellow.
I saw it while visiting a good friend of mine. He had never told her before. But, when I arrived at his house, he immediately pulled my arm towards his backyard where there were many bird cages. He is a collector of various types of chirping birds.
I was absolutely blown away by what it showed. Looks like this is a rare species of ferret or it's an albino weasel, I thought.
My friend estimated this to be a ferret cub no more than 3 months old. He had just caught it this afternoon when he was going to train his bird to sing around the bushes near his house.
According to him, this weasel cub got lost or was left behind by its mother. "What kind of mother is she? Why did her mother leave this beautiful baby alone?"
We tried to find various references about it on the internet, but did not find anything about this golden ferret. Hey! We already called him the "Golden Weasel".
I was reminded of the arctic civet whose story was broadcast by the Nat Geographic Channel. The arctic civet is a weasel that is able to adapt to changing seasons. In summer, their fur is brownish red and in winter, their fur turns white to adapt to the snowy environment. Nat Geo mentions it as an adaptation mechanism of arctic civets for camouflage from their predators and camouflage for them when hunting.
But, this is in Indonesia or the Southeast Asia region, here there is no summer and winter. Generally, people in Southeast Asia recognize civets as gray and black, with black mouths and ears as well. But the weasel you see is very different, it has golden yellow fur, red ears and mouth.
We did not find any answers about the animal that we have named this golden weasel. I suggested to my friend to consult the zoo. This golden ferret will be safer if it is there. My friend prefers to keep it, at least for a while. But, my advice goes back, "be careful with your birds mate!"
My friend allowed me to take these pictures of "the golden weasel". But I'm out of luck! He never stays still and keeps moving like asking to be released from a borrowed birdcage. I only got these photos, though not perfect. The rest are photos that look blurry, so I don't deserve to share them with you.
I didn't notice, is this golden ferret male or female? lol
Do you know about this weasel?
