Esta semana se esterilizaron de forma gratuita por lo menos 70 animales entre Puerto Ordaz y Guri, todos ellos comunitarios, es decir, en situación de calle que son protegidos por algunas personas, esto con la finalidad de reducir la cantidad de animales que se reproducen en situación de abandono y sin atentar contra su vida. Esto como parte de un **Plan Nacional de Esterilizacion de Animales** así que primero les explicaré en que consiste.

Este es un plan nacional realizado desde la Misión Nevado en el que se realizan cirugías de esterilización de animales como medida de control poblacional, como este es realizado por medicos veterinarios especializados en cirugías de esterilización, es normal encontrar algunas ciudades o pueblos en los que aún no se aplica este plan porque evidentemente, si no hay medico veterinario no podemos poner al carnicero o al panadero a rea lizar las cirugías.

Viene dado en 3 formas principales:

• Plan Municipal (Alcaldías): Aunque es lo ideal, que todas las alcaldías del país se involucren, solo podemos decir que aproximadamente el 2% de las alcaldías son las que lo hacen.

En nuestro caso, hemos logrado importantes alianzas con organizaciones privadas que realizan campañas a bajo costo y que al finalizar dichas actividades, nos dedican uno o dos días para la atención gratuita de animales en situación de calle, solamente el año pasado esterilizamos mas de 550 animales de forma gratutia con estas alianzas, y esta semana ya esterilizamos aproximadamente 70 animales entre Guri y Puerto Ordaz gracias al apoyo de la Organización Control Ético Animal, y poco antes 40 mas que fueron atendidos por veterinarios de la administración publica, es decir, este año ya llevamos 110 animales esterilizados de forma gratuita.

Una Emergencia / An emergency

Aunque estas cirugías son programadas para pacientes sanos, no podemos hacernos los locos cuando se trata de una emergencia, en esta ocasión trajeron desde Ciudad Bolívar a una perrita con un diagnostico incierto, al realizar la cirugía exploratoria, el veterinario encontró una "Piometra" (Inflamación del utero) que comprometía la vida del animal, esto afortunadamente fue resuelto oportunamente y la paciente se encuentra ahora bajo recuperación.

Cuidado Post Operatorio / Postoperative Care

A nuestros pacientes se les entrega el tratamiento post operatorio de la primera semana y se le explica la forma correcta para la realización de una faja postoperatoria de protección del area de la incision quirurgica, esto para evitar complicaciones en un futuro cerano, durante ese tiempo los animales comunitarios permanecen bajo resguardo voluntario del proteccionista que decidió llevarla a cirugía, es decir, el protector no solo lleva y se olvida del paciente sino que se hace cargo de su cuidado postoperatorio.
