Three days ago, while taking a walk outside the house, I saw a cat. As usual, I tried to call it over, and as usual, I wanted to take a photo. As I got closer, I realized something was wrong with it. Normally, stray cats run away, or they just stand at a distance and watch because they are not friendly. It was so badly injured that it didn't even get up or run away from us. But the closer we went it was afraid and wanted to go away from us.
After some scrambling, it tried to hide in a bush. I quickly put on a plastic polythene bag in my hand; I caught the cat with the support of a cloth and put it in the cage. To catch him, two boys who were taking their buffaloes helped.
I think that it fell from a high place, and its waist and the front leg got damaged. Since it had fallen for a few days, it might have become very weak due to a lack of food and water. It also had a lot of ticks and loose motion.
After bringing it home, we called the nearby animal NGO, and we came to know that the nearby animal shelter had shifted from here to Doiwala, some 20 km away. Then we called two or three more places, but nothing happened. We were looking for an NGO animal shelter because we couldn't keep this cat indoors. After all, we already had a cat, and there was a fear of it getting infected.
Finally, we contacted the same animal hospital where we take all the other animals for treatment. The hospital is called Rahat Animal Hospital, which is two kilometres from our house.
The doctor at Rahat Hospital examined the cat and told us that it was about 4 to 5 months old. He said that it would not be right to apply any kind of plaster because its injury had not been treated in time and it had now become. He gave the cat an injection, prescribed deworming medicine, did a complete check, and we had to bring the cat home.
Now she is on our rooftop. This way, we have kept our indoor cat separate from this cat to prevent any infection transfer. Until a day ago, she was not able to open her eyes properly and was not able to walk properly. From today morning, she has been walking and has opened her eyes.
My son shared that this is the same cat he used to see every day while going to school. There were three of them, but we only found this injured one. I hope the other two are okay and healthy.
It is a kind of relief for us, as I was thinking it would not survive. I know it will take a month or two for her to become healthy again. I am very happy to share that it survived, and now it’s all about waiting for its recovery. We named her Mili; It’s a Hindi word that means found.
I don’t know if I should say I rescue cats or they find me. But most of the time, I come across cats that need support. We take care of them, help them heal and look for adoption. Or if the cat is from somewhere nearby, then we make sure to help them recover so they can go back to the place they belong.
Declaimare- All the photos are clicked me on my phone and by my niece on her phone. I have traslated Hindi to English in Google translate.
