Look at that happy face!
Introducing our new family member
Initially, I planned on writing another Foster Friday post today until I accidentally published another post earlier where I mentioned Maesi before introducing her to everyone. Therefore I thought it might be best to push this introduction forward.
Aki is now Maesi
Maesi is foster kitten Aki with a new name as we decided the one we should adopt was always here. The reason we declined adopting Aki in the first place was that she didn't go well with Mochi. At the time, the kitten needed to become his buddy and it didn't make sense to adopt a kitten who he didn't get along with.
Once Mochi died, we didn't reconsider the adoption of Aki, only Percy, which we also voted against after weighing the pros and cons. But sometimes something you desire is right in front of your eyes without you noticing or realizing it. This was the situation here as Aki was the first of the three kittens in our home that moved in with us.
Cuddle evenings
After the daily play madness is over, and the kittens are slowly becoming tired, there's always this moment when the lady of the house starts to call for attention. She looks at one of us and demands our attention. It was a bit annoying sometimes the way she demands it, but this lady grew on us. The absolute bonus is that she loves all three of us equally so it seems. Every day, she spends several hours sleeping against or on top of one of us which is what we hoped for, a lapcat!
There was this evening last week when we could not deny it any longer, we were in awe seeing her so relaxed with us, truly a people's cat and trying to win us over. I mean look at this:
We gave it another day to make sure we were really all ok with it as we have had a few moments where I really wished she was not here. I can see now that she just has tons of energy and if we motivate her to play as well (not just the kittens together) as well as let her just have her zoomies moment every day, she's actually very caring. She grooms the other two as a real mother, which is also very adorable to watch.
She's been the loudest of all, in fact, I don't think I heard Luna meow more than twice when she was ill, while this lady is always talking to us. We just didn't understand her as well as we do now, which makes things easier. It turns out she's a big teddy bear as you can see in the picture above and she is an actual match with Luna as well.
Names!
Gosh, I forgot how hard it was to figure out Luna's name. Here we go again, names everywhere, and none fitting. You'd think after fostering a kitten for this many weeks, you have the perfect name for her, we just stuck to Aki as we thought if we don't keep her, she will leave our home with two names (Aki and the one we pick) and then needs to get used to a new one when adopted, this just didn't make sense.
Almost a Chloe
I mentioned hundreds of names in one day, only Chloe we both liked, until the next day, I started to feel weird about it and didn't think it suited her after all. And then I knew it! For the last pregnancies, I tried to find a name with "ae" in it but I never succeeded in convincing my boyfriend the first time, and the second and third time, I miscarried. Names were not needed any longer so I never had my name with ae in it.
I thought we call her "Meissie" If we change the pronunciation a little bit (but almost similar) and write it as "Maesi" it can work. I said it just once and the other two instantly agreed, Maesi it is. When you agree on something instantly, you know it's the right name, lol.
A lot of love
It's as if she feels she's not leaving anymore as she's bringing us so much love all day long, it's weird the realize we almost let her go and didn't consider adopting her. I bet if she'd been adopted this week and left us, we'd all regret letting her go and cry our eyeballs out. Thankfully, we realized it in time and now our (cat) family is complete with 2 lovely ladies. Percy is still here too, of course, so we have a male in the house as well, for the time being.
It's becoming a bit of a "three is a crowd" situation so I hope he finds a new family very soon.
Until then, Mommy Maesi will take care of the little ones (she's a month older than Luna and Percy).
Welcome to the family, Maesi!
