Yesterday was Enzo's emergency surgery to stabilize his broken wrists, more particularly to fix both carpal bones.
It was a complicated surgery because, apparently, the carpal bone had been fragmented in 4 places in his right hand while in his left hand, although the injury was minor, the cartilage and the tendinous fiber that surrounds the joint was covered with multiples and infinity of pieces of bone too.
Being such a young dog, the traumatologist has decided to give nature a chance and choose to trust that the dog will recover without adding mechanical elements by using an arthrodesis.
The solution after the surgery therefore has been to immobilize both legs with a special bandage including a splint.
Today I went to look for him and I brought him home. You don't know how happy Enzo was to get home even though he was still half sedated from morphine.
We have assembled a "King-size" type bed for dogs with a replacement mattress that we had at home and some waterproof cover.
I am in direct contact with the traumatologist to follow his evolution day by day, the plan is that he recovers naturally in a period of 5 or 6 weeks and that he can lead a normal life but if things do not work, he may need another surgery much more drastic that would imply the perpetual locking of the joint which I hope does not happen
The poor animal is in very intense pain and although the pain relievers are very strong, Enzo continues to moan from time to time.
Let's see how he evolves, I hope for the best.
