Gong xi fa cai, wholesome reader!
Although today marks the start of the lunar new year, I wanted to introduce our best boi, Loki, our Golden Retriever dog for today’s post. We also call him various names such as Lokipottie/Lokipots, Lokimaru, Loki-borki just because they all sound cute and endearing hehe.
Last December 2021, my sister brought home an adorable two-month-old golden retriever pup. I can still remember how small he was! We named him Loki. Actually, we had to decide whether to call him Aju or Loki, but the latter seemed fit for this woofer.
For the first few months, since his vaccinations weren’t complete yet, we just let him stay inside the house. We treated him like our human baby, lol.
We made sure he had diapers on so that he can pee anytime and not cause any mess inside the house!
Eventually, when he had already completed all the needed vaccinations, we trained him to pee and poop outside the house.
More About Lokipottie
Golden retrievers are naturally friendly dogs. I swear, our Loki can easily be dog-napped by anyone as his tail wags for, literally, anyone! He so loves the attention.
One time, we brought him to a park and many people took the chance to take selfies with him and he seemed to love it, as if he was born to attract attention like a celebrity.
Although a lot of people and some dogs are intimidated by his size (because he grew up so much bigger in a span of one year), our Loki is one of the most affectionate dogs out there. He’d randomly lean his head on your leg or when he sleeps, he’d intentionally put his head on top of your foot. You can also make him your pillow and he won’t complain at all. Did I say that you can also hug him? And he’d stay still until you let go first. This dog, really, is such a source of warmth and affection.
Aside from being affectionate, our Lokipottie can also be playful. This is also a natural characteristic of golden retrievers. He especially loves to play with water and cause us a little headache when he plays on muddy surfaces.
He still does play bite so we’re still being careful when playing with him. There’s a certain time in a day where he’s oozing with so much energy, that’s why it is important for golden retriever dog owners to take their dogs on a walk on a daily basis. This will not only release their extra amount of energy but will also help the dog maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Another thing that makes our Loki amazing is that he knows some tricks! Golden retrieves tend to respond so well to obedience training, that’s why our Loki easily learned some obedience tricks he got when we enrolled him to a month-long in-house training. Some of the tricks he knows are Sit, Down, Up, Wait, Stay, Catch, Handshake, and High Five!
Loki is not our first dog but among all the dogs we’ve owned, he is the most affectionate one. Golden retrievers are affectionate and friendly in nature, making them bad guard dogs lol. If you’re planning to get a golden retriever, just make sure it’s not for security purposes.
I think that would be all for today. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to share more adorable content about Loki with you soon! For now, enjoy these adorable photos of him from my phone gallery 😊
