The rate online scams are going and increasing on a daily basis right now is very terrible most especially in my country because of bad governance and hardship that has made our youth to involve fully into it. People are fall victim and trapped to them on a daily basis. They create fake links, hack people's accounts and send impersonation messages. These scammers make it looks so real to doubt them. Their aim is always make one to be under pressure to act fast without thinking.
I have been their victim several times. There's this one that happened recently. I received a call from them, that my mother in-law was admitted to the hospital and she needs urgent treatment and that I should send money immediately to commence treatment. Frankly speaking I nearly send the money to them, the way they person was pressuring me to act quickly, and they use a familiar voice. They are very smart to clone numbers, because I tried calling my MOTHER in-laws number but it wasn't connecting at that moment all these are happening. I have to call someone close to her to confirm if she is okay and person said she is right there with her and I spoke with her, she sounds okay unlike someone in hospital as the scammer said. I later called the scammer and rain causes on him and as a as he noticed I had caught him, he immediately block me.
So for one not to fall victim and stay safe from all these online scammers, we should be more careful and shouldn't be so quick to reply to their messages or click to their link, we have to first verify through a website or Google to know their originality. For calls we should get a Truecaller to verify unknown number before picking, by so doing we will know when these scammers are calling. We should always use a 2 factor authentication and on no account should you send or disclose your OTP or password to anyone, because no bank will ask for it or any real establishment will ask for it. We should always be alert because these online scammers uses some familiar brand logos to scam their victims and the same time, we should be careful and always do an update to stay safe.
In fact Impersonation is one of the most dangerous way they scam their victims today, they clone your account and contacts. Once they get familiar and trust from their victim, they strike the person without hesitating. This hurts so badly when being scammed financially.
My advice for anyone not to fall victim to these online scammers is that, you have to calm down and not be in a rush to act or respond to them. We should always verify their originality through a website and call one or two persons before responding or clicking on the link. We should always use our 2-factor by turning it on and also avoid disclosing our passwords for any reason that we are not sure of.
We have to be very careful, vigilant and wise while handling or using the internet because it's not safe out there. So the best and safe way not to get scammed with this online scammers is to calm down and not be in a hurry to verify well before clicking on their link or call. We shouldn't let anyone pressurised or force us do what we will regret and may cause us loss after doing.
