"Don't say it cannot happen," This was my ex-boss mantra, and I resonate wholeheartedly with it.
Life is full of uncertaintities and at such, each of us can be a victim of circumstance in a twinkle of an eye. No wonder, Jay-Z sang "hope for the best, but expect the worse."
Since I am aware of this fact, I try so hard to plan for the good and the not-so good days, which is why I love to have an emergency fund.
Being an entrepreneur, who doesn't rely on a monthly salary, I try so hard to create a special fund for an emergency, firstly I try to stay off debt which has made it a lot more easier for me to save for the rainy day.
At the end of every week, I have a specific amount which goes into a particular saving account that is locked until there is a need for it.
I share my income into three parts, one part is for my necessities, the other one is for miscellaneous & financial responsibility while the other is for an emergency and each of these have an account, which enables me to be disciplined in spending, and being aware of which funds cannot be toyed with until there is an emergency.
I remember vidivldy, how this strategy helped me when I was in dire need of money, rather than running to friends for help, I quickly unlocked the funds and used them after which I refilled my emergency account when things got better.
Another strategy I have come up with is, saving up some HBD at the end of every week, and also saving some dollars in my wallets. I believe a little drop of water makes a mighty ocean, (saving in dollar augments for the depreciation of my country's currency) whatever my payout is for the week, I save up half of it or quarter of it at the end of every week and this has helped me solved so many problems without running helter skelter.
The brilliant thing about this idea is the fact that, my money appreciates, I come from a country where the currency has little or no value, so saving up my HBD which is tantamount to saving a stable coin is such a good idea, because whenever I need it, I withdraw and see the value for my money, which means my emergency funds grows with inflation, more to that I enjoy the 20โ APR rate which helps to top up whatever I have saved for the month.
Since I am aware that withdrawing HBD from savings takes about three days, I also try to keep some HBD handy which I could make do with until the next three days when I can now withdraw whatever I need from my savings.
All of these strategies have helped me to stay afloat when the financial boat sinks.
