I like making and earning money, and yeah, who doesn’t? While growing up, I used to have a piggy bank where I saved any money I earned. During the Christmas season, I will open the savings and give my mum the funds to buy a Christmas dress for me. This was how I started my journey to making money. Then, I was between 8 to 10 years old.
Fast forward to my teens, I did several hustles during holidays like selling sachet waters, oranges, and smoked corn in front of our house. This is to earn pocket money.
While at University, my study group organises tutorials and collects stipends from participants. Graduating from school, I started a full-time job and continued making money. Were those hustling easy? No, all of them came with different levels of sacrifices and hard work.

Secondly, during holidays, then, I will wake up by 4 am (West African time) and go to the morning market. This is to enable me to get Oranges or Corn, I will roast for the day. There, we will run after vehicles carrying those items. Sometimes, some will fall and get injured; at times, the vehicle will hit an individual. Worst still, someone may lose their fund while running up and down to get items to sell. All these are in a bid to make money.
Recently, the monetisation of the Web 2 ecosystem has increased madness and impunity in the pursuit of funds, while we daily encounter scammers who want to eat where they did not sow, we are all witnesses to the revolutions around crypto, which has increased the urge to make money. However, some no longer consider their mental health. They consume caffeine, kola nut, and energy drinks to stay awake all day to make money. It has led to a lot of mental health challenges and disastrous health issues.
At present, some contract staff work at night in our factory and day in another factory, to make money at their health's detriment. You can see that it is not easy to make this money in my country.
Additionally, Government policies on grants and other issues like inflation, instability in the power sector, corruption, and unemployment have not helped the citizens.
Despite all these daunting challenges, Nigerians are resolute and intentional in making money. No wonder they said if you go to any country and find no Nigerian there, you run for your dear life. They have remained resourceful through skill acquisition, advanced technology, and artisan roles.
In conclusion, though earning money in my country is not easy, it requires smartness, creativity, consistency, and resilience.
