"My First Earning / Pocket Money Story", Everyone remembers the first time they earned money or received pocket money 💸 It may be small in amount, but big in emotions and lessons.
Hello #indiaunited friends, happy weekend. I trust you are doing great and enjoying your weekend. I welcome you to my blog.
My first earning via pocket money is a day to remember, an unforgettable experience. A surreal moment. Thinking about earning money was like winning a jackpot. It is a day I will not forget in a hurry.

My late Dad just completed enrolling my immediate elder sister and me into a secondary school. When we returned home, he called us with our late Mum to the living room and said, “ I think that with this new phase of these children’s life,” I want you to add their weekly pocket money to the house feeding allowance, which we are going to discuss.
Though the money was little, the feeling was unexplainable. We could not sleep that weekend. We were rewinding the discussion and repeating the statement our Dad made about the weekly pocket money. The next day, being Saturday morning, we woke up before everyone else and mobbed the whole house. My mum added extra chores to get the most out of us, but we never minded.
Then came that faithful Monday morning, and we woke up very early. Did what we could and prepared for school. A few minutes before we left for school, my mum came out with my Dad and handed over a sum of money and other school items, and simply said, “That money is your pocket money for the week”. We giggled at each other and happily collected the money from my mum and left to meet our Dad, who was already waiting for us in the car.

That day marked a turning point in my life. It made me feel empowered and independent. The day I started earning a few naira notes every week. I held the money in my hand tight enough to feel it. I was also very careful with the money. When we returned from school, with the help of our male friends within the neighbourhood, two piggy banks were made for my sister and me. I started saving a little money. Which I calculated every month and handed it over to my mum to buy something tangible for me.
Though that pocket money is small, with time, it increased and had a direct positive impact on my savings. Looking back to that day, I still feel surreal and fulfilled at that point, knowing that a remarkable change happened, which marked my financial freedom.
