Everyone is singing praises of the internet; it has made life easy in so many ways. From the comfort of your home, you can put a call across to people in other countries. It has helped to bond and communicate; it creates rooms for many opportunities. One can shop online, do remote jobs and study online without going to a physical class. People bond and make friends through social media. As much as the internet has made life easy, it has also created space for online scammers who prey on people every day. The funny thing is, this particular set of people is always ready to stay awake all night looking for people to scam. It can either be investment fraud or fake giveaways, etc. Scammers are working endlessly to steal money and personal information from people. That is why it is very important we should always protect ourselves from scammers.
I always tell people that they should be careful of the information they post online. Many scammers gather our personal information and use it against us. That is why I try my best to protect the information I share online. I try not to post sensitive information about myself online, my background, or my passwords and bank details in general. I try not to post things that can be used against me. That is why I post less personal information on the internet so that strangers will not have full access to my details; I am safer if they don’t know anything about me.
Another way I try to protect myself from online scammers is trying my best to avoid clicking on a link I am not sure of. It is no longer news that scammers send fake messages pretending to come from your banks, or they will call telling you that one of your family members is hospitalised and that they need a certain amount of money. If you fall victim, they will scam you of your money. That is why I keep telling people not to click on any random link you come across.
Creating a strong password is very necessary for online safety. These scammers easily have access to our login details because they can easily guess them. That is why your password should have a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. If possible, you should have different passwords; it will help prevent hackers from having access to the other accounts.
Before I shop online, I must ask people how the platform works. The moment I log in, I will check people's comments and reviews because from there I will get to know how they operate and if they are legit or not. I try my best not to trust anyone I meet online so easily. The majority of these scammers build friendships just to scam the person. I always have boundaries, more especially when dealing with people you have not met physically.
It is very important that we should protect ourselves from scammers. The more reason you should be careful is these scammers are getting smarter and more creative day by day. That is why everyone should be more than careful of the things they post and the information they post out there. The internet is here to make the world easier for us and not the other way round.
