When I first started earning on Hive, even if it was small, I won’t lie… the first thought that came to my mind was how to cash it out. It felt exciting to see something turn into money. After all the effort, the idea of taking it out and using it in real life felt rewarding.
But as time went on, I started hearing more about “powering up.” At first, I didn’t really understand it deeply. Why keep the reward when you can use it now? That was my thinking. It felt like delaying enjoyment for something I wasn’t fully sure about.
Then I started observing others. People who kept powering up slowly were growing. Not overnight, not in a flashy way, but steadily. Their influence increased, their votes mattered more, and their presence on the platform became stronger. That made me pause and think.
My parents always had this mindset when it comes to money. My father would say, “Not everything you earn is for spending.” Back then, I used to feel like that advice was too strict. But now, I see the sense in it.
So I found myself in between two choices. Power up or cash out.
There were times I really needed money, and cashing out made sense. Life outside the screen is real, and responsibilities don’t wait. In those moments, I didn’t feel bad about it. You have to take care of yourself first.
But there were also times I decided to power up, even if it was small. And honestly, that decision felt like planting something. You don’t see the result immediately, but you know it’s growing somewhere.
What I’ve learned is that it’s not always about choosing one side completely. It’s about balance. Understanding your current situation and making a decision that fits it.
If you always cash out, you might miss long-term growth. If you always power up without thinking, you might ignore real-life needs.
My mother used to say, “Use your hand wisely, not just quickly.” That applies here too.
Right now, I try to do both, little by little. Some I keep, some I use. Not perfect, but it works for me.
Because in the end, this journey is not just about earning… it’s about learning how to manage what you earn.
