In their younger days, my children and I used to play Scrabble together, a lot. In fact Saturday and Sunday evenings were dedicated to the game as I would need to help them with their spellings, and on these evenings, we would roll out the board. We had lots of fun and many hearty laughs over their outrageous word formations at the initial stage, so we always kept a dictionary by our side. Each game taught them new words, fostered family interactions, and I actually watched them get better in their word usage and spellings, I also got better too!....lols.
Then they started seeing it as an intellectual challenge. The older boy never wanted his younger sister to beat him in the game, and vice versa. This led to a healthy rivalry, with each of them often picking up their dictionaries to learn new words and spellings before game time. It has been incredibly rewarding for them (us) academically, as it has greatly expanded their (our) vocabulary and made them (us) better in English Language.
Scrabble is a very popular word game where players score points by creating meaningful words on a game board using letter tiles. The game can be played by two, three or four players, on a Scrabble board (15×15 grid with special squares). It also comes with letter tiles, and the winner was the one who formed the most words on the board.
I believe that the Scrabble Game can be a very wonderful family activity because it can strengthen both family bonds and intellectual growth. The educational benefits is a reason for it to be included in children's routines. Instead of chilling out with smartphones and playing TV games which I don't find too useful, I make a persuasive recommendation for parents to include Scrabble in their children's learning routines, because it would act as an alternative to those passive activities.
