Gone are the days when things were genuine. You can safely click on links and truly arrive at the right destinations, but today, our distance from danger is just a click away.
A lot of people have lost their precious assets through scams. Some in the form of links, some direct deceits, and so on.
It's really pathetic how mean the hearts of men have become. They don't mind making another person poor if only it will empower them.
Some time this year, a blog was made on Hive Blockchain, and I was particularly tagged. To be honest, the post was tempting.
It was a giveaway project offering to reward hivers for their consistency on the blockchain. But the requirement was logging in with your Hive key.
Different thoughts dashed in my head as I saw the post. I was in dire need of money at the time, “Should I click, should I not?”
I asked myself several times.
Finally, I came to the conclusion to tag hivewatchers on the blog to prove its authenticity, and to my surprise, a friend of mine, , replied instantly, cautioning me to avoid the link.
Only God knows what would have happened if I had not decided to make that extra inquiry.
Later on, hivewatchers also replied and identified that the account had been flagged a long time ago, and its reputation was negative.
I was not mindful enough to detect all that, and even if I had seen the negative reputation, I wouldn't have known its meaning.
There are a lot of scam links out there. Even in our beloved hive, there are many as well.
These cold-hearted individuals take advantage of the fact that genuine giveaway projects take place on the blockchain, so they create similar projects and use them to scam people.
If you ask me what kind of scam is common these days, my answer is the Internet scam, and specifically the use of phishing links. It's everywhere; one wrong click can wipe out your whole account.
The best way to stay safe from these tricks is by verifying links before going ahead to click on them.
For some of these sites that I have had personal experience with, immediately you click, the next option would either be to input your seed phrase or your password.
Vital details would be required, and when you foolishly give that information out of greed or the desire to make free and easy money, it is done.
It happened to a lot of my friends during PI mining. Within a few minutes, all their assets were gone.
We must learn how to verify any giveaway projects before we give our attention to it: Ask a few people about it, and in the case where it seems not to be well known, stay away.
Never share your wallet details with anyone; in fact, it's risky to save it on our phones because our phones can get lost, and sometimes our friends can use our phones. You don't know the heart of man.
Avoid phishing sites; any site promising rewards that are unrealistic and free should be avoided. Most people fall victim because of their desire to make free money.
They want to get double what they already have without necessarily following the right procedure, and that is exactly where scammers get them.
