What are the traditions I was taught?
One of them is eating together. Meal time is a perfect time for families to bond, discuss, and resolve issues between siblings. Growing up, we all ate from the same plate. This taught us patience and love, to look out for each other, as we eat and bond together.
Although things have changed in our time and children don't necessarily have to eat from the plate. I still make it a goal for us to eat at the same time. When it is meal time, then you have to stop whatever you are doing and go for your food. This way, everyone is eating at the same time, striking conversations, talking about recent happenings with cheerfulness. The bonds formed during these moments are always cherished and priceless, and I want it passed from generation to generation.
Another tradition would be praying together, studying, and planning outings.
The goal is to stick together and create a bond that can't be easily broken. Praying together has been helpful in this regard, and my mum makes sure we take turns for this. We also study the bible together and would discuss bible character, joke about some of them, and talk about how we can imitate the good examples.
Planned outings also help us cherish and look out for each other outside our comfort zones. We have language codes and gestures that we use for communication when we are uncomfortable in a certain place, and this is really fun.
These traditions are useful to me today as I manage my own home. I make sure to eat with my husband or stay up so we can chat while he eats. We pray together, study together, and do things together as a family. These are important traditions that I'm going to teach my children, along with respect and love for others.
