Summer is one season I don’t really enjoy, mostly because of how extremely hot it gets where I live. The air feels hot, the breeze is dry, and the overall weather makes me uncomfortable. The heat often leaves me feeling tired, sweaty, and uneasy throughout the day.
Even though I don’t like the season much, I’ve found a few simple ways to manage it better.
The following tricks help me cope with the heat and make summer a little more bearable;
- Stay Hydrated
One of the most important things I do during summer is drink plenty of water. Even if I don’t feel thirsty, I still take small sips throughout the day. I always keep my water bottle nearby, whether I’m at home, outside, or even running errands. Having it close reminds me to drink regularly. This habit helps keep my body cool, prevents dehydration, and makes me feel more refreshed. Drinking water often also helps my body work properly, especially in the heat when I sweat more than usual.
- Air Conditioner
I usually prefer using an air conditioner during hot weather because it cools the room much better than a fan. Fans often just blow around the hot air, which doesn’t help much when the temperature is really high. The air conditioner gives me real relief by making the room feel cool and comfortable.
But when there’s a power cut or the electricity goes off, I switch to using a rechargeable fan to keep some air flowing. I also use damp towels, placing them on my neck, arms, or forehead to help bring down my body temperature. In addition, I open the windows to let in some fresh air, especially if there’s a breeze outside. All these little things help me stay cool and avoid feeling too sweaty or uncomfortable when there’s no air conditioning.
- Avoiding the Sun
One of the ways I deal with the heat is by staying out of the sun as much as possible. I try not to walk around during the hottest part of the day unless it's really necessary. The sun can be very harsh, and walking under it makes me feel tired, sweaty, and uncomfortable.
If I have to go out, I usually drive so I can stay cool with the air conditioner in the car. That way, I’m not directly exposed to the hot sun. But when driving isn’t an option and I have to walk, I make sure to carry an umbrella. It gives me some shade and helps protect me from the sun’s heat.
These are some of the simple but helpful tricks I use to get through the hot season without feeling too uncomfortable. They make a big difference and help me manage the heat better.
