HBD, as we all know, is a stablecoin pegged to the USD. It's stable, strong and reliable. HBD has many use cases, and people use it as per their needs.
Basically, HBD can be saved for interest. You can spend or shop with it. Or even trade it - converting it to Hive, especially when Hive price drops, then convert it back when it goes up. Unfortunately, the price of Hive now isn't encouraging to carry that out.
HBD could also be used as a loan scheme. You give it out either as an interest or interest-free loan (depending on choice). That's by the way, though. Lol.
In addition, DHF fund projects with HBD. We've seen many of them, like the Hive Ghana Borehole project, the Hive Rally Car and others.
When I first joined Hive, all I knew about HBD was just a payout reward. After 7 days, posts pay out in HBD and, of course, HP. Didn't know one could actually save it and earn APR annually.
Then, a couple of months later, I stumbled on a thread by Khaleelkazi. He talked about HBD savings and the 20% you earn then just for saving it. I didn’t know you could do that. His reply was simple: “Start saving."
That was all the push I needed to start my journey of HBD savings. I think the first HBD I saved was from the prize I received for participating in the Leofinance, now Inleo zealy campaign. Followed by the prize from the HODL weekly contest.
And when I started participating in Hive Power Up Day, I also used it as my HBD savings day too. I'd save HBD after converting some to Hive to power up. Month after month. I also did random savings, especially when I received HBD for participating in a contest.
I wasn’t actually saving HBD for anything specific. It was just for eventualities, for emergencies and the like. In a couple of months, I was able to save a considerable amount of HBD. Cool money o.
When my phone packed up last year, I used a part of the savings to get a new phone. Another part was channeled to house rent.
While I saved, I also spent. That's balancing the equation. Lol. I usually convert it to Hive, and sell for fiat. Then came the SpendHBD project in my city, and I keyed in. I’d go to the listed shops, buy groceries or whatever I needed, and pay directly with HBD. After payment, I’d write a review, and then claim a discount of between 20-45%, paid back to my wallet instantly. I believe most of you came across my reviews back then. Hehehe. Honestly, SpendHBD made shopping fun, stress-free and profitable too.
However, since the payout reward in HBD was stopped and the Hive price dropped, I've equally stopped saving HBD too. Well, I still have a small amount left in savings. I noticed the APR is 12% now. It's still better than nothing.
To round up, HBD started as a reward for me. Then it became a safety net (savings), and finally, it became real money I could spend.
