To manage money is not easy. Here, we kind of believe money is a spirit, because life will keep coming at you and money will keep disappearing. There was a time back then, it was my first time collecting a salary, the only thing I remember is the fact that I usually feel happy for the next few hours after the money comes in. After then, the rest is history, by the time it's the second day there's nothing to show for it. I would check for the things I had thought I would do still remain undone, people I had promised to send money are still there, and yet the salary I collected yesterday is finished.
Well, that was then. Not as if I still don't do certain things now, but then I have become more intentional with the way I spend. I do what they call budgeting. Yea, budgeting goes a long way in making me really be in control, I get to plan, save and get things done. I take my time to divide my income, share what goes to rent, to foodstuffs, to miscellaneous, to transport, to rent, to family and all. Like I said earlier there are times I do certain things, there are times I still don't get it right and I get stranded even before the month ends. And that's because there are times I do things I don't budget, there are times I give out, there are times I overspend on eating out and the likes whereas there are bills I haven't sorted out.
Managing our income is important and essential for us to live a stressed free life. It's not easy, because at the end of the day, we wonder how much it is exactly that we are earning, very small, so is that what to plan with, is that what to budget with, is that what to save from, is that what to give freely from. But then, whether you plan it or not, it will go, so why not take your time to plan, budget and manage it, that way you would feel as if you've even earned more than normal, reason being that every naira don't just count now, but it now has purpose.
The truth is it really has nothing to do with how much you earn, how big your income is and all, but how you can manage that which you have or earn. Even if you earn more and can't manage, it would still look as if you ain't different from those earning less. Management of income and our funds is good and it's advantages cannot be overemphasized. It teaches you discipline, patience and responsibility.
