On the first day of the year, I remember scrolling through so many social media platforms, and there were memes everywhere. There were so many memes to laugh over, and for the first time, it was clear that people are now starting to realize that it’s not suddenly upturning your life, and adopting new lifestyles on the first day of the year, that actually helps one succeed in their goals.
Now, if you’re familiar with the world of memes (meme industry) and how it’s worked over the years, you know that people rarely share their humor online for like the first five days. Then, these memes start to resurface, when these memers have become lax with their resolutions.
New Year resolutions are one tradition that’s been existing for a very long time. People say they want to change at the start of a year, they draft plans, stick to it for the first few days, and then go back to living their normal routines. I won’t lie, I was once one of them. I would write lists, goals, plans. And for the first five to ten days in the year, my mantra will be ‘This is 2026, I’m no more doing this’. Few days after, you’ll in fact, find me doing this, that and those.😂
However, no matter the amount of mistakes I’ve made, when it comes to new year resolutions, I’ll never stop planning changes i would love to see in my life. These mistakes have helped me figure out my methods that need fixing when it comes to making changes I want to see in myself before the year runs out hence, the reason I always look forward to reviewing my year and planning the new one.
This year 2026, I plan to live. I overthought in the year 2025, so much, that I became the reason for my unhappiness as a result of worry. So, this year, it’s going to be different. No more overthinking. Well guess what? I already started working on my overthinking from late last year and now, I’m at a point of no return. I still get overstimulated sometimes and start to worry, but it’s fine, as long as I continue to make the conscious effort to not worry anymore.
Change doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s a very obvious fact. I’ve been an over thinker for a very long time, so I don’t expect it to go away because it’s the first day in a new year. I love to give myself this sense of direction as early as possible, and start making moves to achieve it. Before 2026 runs out, I plan to write my first book, I plan to further my knowledge in a particular field of learning, I plan to read more than 100books this year. These are all parts of my to-be achievements this year.
I no longer like to refer to my goals for the year as resolutions. I like to term them ‘to-be achievements’, because that’s what they are. They aren’t just plans to me. They’re plans I’m about to carry out, and achieve in the new year. Thinking about it this way, helps a lot because most of these plans are already works in progress, so what is left is just to continue putting in the work, and achieving. Cheers to 2026 being my best year yet.
