I usually forget to drink water after my meal. But this was some years back. I hadn’t understood how important it was to drink water regularly, and as a young lady, I used to be proud of myself when I remembered I haven't drank water after a meal, only to remember hours later, and I would smile and pat myself on the back for such an achievement.
I should actually attribute this to being by God’s grace because water is actually good for the body and to prevent dehydration. Many times, I would see it as a big thing that water wasn’t necessary like that.
When I got to school, you know how hard it was for students to survive. I have taken well water which weren’t treated, and that resulted in me being diagnosed with typhoid twice and being admitted to the hospital. When my sister advised me to change my water, and I had to calculate the cost of buying treated and good water every week, as a student, it was impossible for me, but she promised to support me monthly, which I was grateful for.
Even when I started drinking good water, I was still managing it by taking a little sip daily so it doesn’t finish and needing me to spend more than the budget. I just wanted to play economically with my money while suffering my health.
It was when I read a beautiful book; I can’t remember the title again. But it made me realise how important water is, and an individual must drink enough even early in the morning.
That was another hard one for me. It has never been a habit to drink water very early in the morning for me. Like, how does it taste, especially not having brushed my teeth? I just didn’t see myself doing that, but when I tried it the first time, it wasn't as I had thought it would be. In fact, I loved it.
From that day on, it became a habit that has changed my life healthily. I no longer get dehydrated as I used to. I drink water every now and then even at midnight, especially when I am feeling thirsty (something I would rather endure before until I wake up because I saw it as a weird thing). I drink at any time of the day, and it’s been cool.
Some of my friends still find it weird to drink water very early in the morning, mostly when you haven’t brushed your teeth because of the taste. To them, it would taste bitter, which I agreed with, but I made them understand why it’s good to drink enough water and to begin with early in the morning, as it gives one energy for the first hours of the day. It has become a habit since then for me.
