On 15th August, Independence Day, India got its freedom. It is incredible to read about our freedom fighters, about incredible people and their contribution to the country and to the people of the nation.

I would like to talk about freedom and responsibilities. I have been thinking for many days about writing about it, and I think this month is the best month to share my thoughts about freedom. At the same time when I sat to write about it, and my fingers typed this paragraph, I was also realising that it is not easy to talk, write, and express freedom.
I remember a long time back I attended a session conducted by a lawyer and I still remember that one line, “When you spread your both hand and the moment it reaches near other people's face your freedom ends there only” It was in Hindi and it is difficult to write it in English, but freedom does not give us the right to take away someone else's rights.
Are we embracing that freedom in our personal lives? Are we free? Free as an individual, free to make choices, free to talk about the right things, and raising our voice when it is needed, are we being responsible people in my society, responsible citizens in my country, or am I a bystander in my society?
Freedom can differ from person to person; However, I am sure freedom does not give anyone the right to kill another person, Freedom cannot give right to exploit someone, rape someone, abuse someone, force someone, or do any kind of violence. Our freedom gives us the right to speak but does not give us the right to abuse or humiliate anyone. As human beings we get our rights by birth without any discrimination, without gender discrimination, then someone violates our rights?
Sometimes I think about how we have been taught and we are also teaching to next generation not to talk to strangers, not to go out at night, that time gone when humans used to trust one another, now people changed and so many other precautions. I grew up in the village and we heard almost similar things from our parents do not go out at night or dark, do not go alone, but it was because of the wild animals, it is so strange that we are taking precautions from humans. What is more dangerous a wild animal or a human?
Humans have the power to take and make the right decision, the power to think, the power to protect mankind, and the power to protect other living and non-livings, and have developed so much. But I am not sure where we all (families, relations, society, nation, and world) are heading. I do not know what all want and what kind of freedom each person defines.
I will leave here with the thoughts What kind of freedom do you enjoy; Do we know our freedom brings responsibilities?
