Traditions and rituals are those things that cannot be skipped, and they usually bring people together and also make memories. Anytime these things are being observed, it will always make people bond and be happy together.
I love this particular tradition in my house, as it cannot be skipped. The New Year get-together.
We usually come together on the first day of the year from far and near to celebrate and also discuss things that are very important.
On that day, we will have to go to the market and buy foodstuffs so as to prepare our native meal. During the preparations, every family member would always contribute whatever they had so that everyone would eat.
Drinks will be bought, and everyone will be happy that day.
Since it is always a meeting of all the extended family, we are always dressed in beautiful clothes. One may think we really need to be dressed since we are just staying in our house, but no, we have to dress very well so that our pictures will be nice.
One meeting day, something happened. After we had finished eating and taking pictures, it was a norm for Dad to advise us so that we would be very serious that year. I remember that day; as Dad was talking to us, we heard a bang on the back door. We were so scared, looking for who would go and open the door. My brother said that he wanted to go, but everyone said no to him. We were so scared; we could not even breathe very well. If it would have been possible, we would have just stopped breathing at that time.
Dad wanted to go to the door, but Mum was pleading with him, and we kept hearing the bang.
My dad summoned up his courage to go to the door to see who was banging on the door.
When he went very close to the door, he opened it, and then he saw our neighbour's dog trying to come inside the house.
Our neighbour's dog likes my dad so much, maybe because my dad loves dogs too. I mean, the dog cannot do without my dad; he would always come to our house every day to play with my dad.
He eats in our house, and sometimes he sleeps in our house.
