We all know that in society there are some people who enjoy being around others, and some who prefer to be alone. Some spend more time with people to learn from their experiences, to add productivity to their business or job, to grow their business, or to gain promotions at work. On the other hand, there are those who seek solitude in order to understand themselves better.

Speaking for myself, I prefer solitude over being social. I enjoy traveling alone, and instead of debating with people, I would rather sit in my room reading books on self-improvement, science, history, or literature. At times, I feel that the real joy of life lies in spending time with oneself. When you are alone, you do not need to prove yourself in the eyes of others. Solitude gives you the chance to befriend books and the pen, or to engage in any activity you truly enjoy whether it is painting, research on a subject, or meditation.
But above all, solitude offers the greatest opportunity of all: the chance to know and examine yourself. It saves you from the constant rush of the world and allows you to pause for a moment to ask, “What is really happening? Where am I heading? Will this path take me to where I truly want to go, or like most people, will I end up in a place I never wished to be?”
