Namaste everyone, and happy new year!
New year's celebrations are always exciting for most people. I mean, it always feels like a miracle to see a new year. For me, it's just another day of the calendar, but then I always find myself caught up in the euphoria, especially when those around me are celebrating. After all, it's a good thing to be alive and thriving. So, we gotta be grateful to God.
But I must confess, I'm not a New Year Resolutions person. I have tried several times, in previous years, to set goals, or make resolutions but I never follow through in the long run. I always decline into my old patterns. My bad, right?🙄
2025 was a year I can't even explain. ‘Twas one of my blank years ever — it felt like that year just came and went without anything special happening for me. I'm sure even if I had set goals, I wouldn't have followed through. 2025 just wasn't my year, I guess.
But 2026, oh it's gonna be different. I can feel it right inside my guts! 😀
So, I ended last year with one prayer on my lips, “Dear God, I need directions for the new year. What should I do?”
I was scrolling through Facebook, when I stumbled on a post. The poster was explaining how to achieve one's goals. I went to the comment section and I saw a comment that felt like God's answer to my prayer. It simply read, “Systems and Structure”
Honestly that was for me. So on the 31st day of December I wrote down a few goals I want to achieve:
• Declutter my mental space by unfollowing pages and persons that do not align with positivity and growth. I cannot enter tomorrow with yesterday's mentality.
• Develop good habits. Honestly I really need to do away with bad habits. So far, I have started by reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. And that is just the first book I needed to read to set me on the right track into the new year. There are other books waiting.
• Show up more on Hive. Yeah, for the most part of last year, I wasn't consistent. My phone was damaged in August, and from that time till the end of the year I was irregular and then absent on Hive. I hope to increase my visibility this year.
These are just the three out of the six goals I have set out to achieve this year. However, I'm not so focussed on the goals, but on the SYSTEMS and STRUCTURES by which those goals would be achieved. And it all starts with the quality of my habits. Because according to James Clear,
habits are the atoms of our life.
You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your system.
Therefore, my greatest resolution is to change my habits. But more importantly, create a system for that change because it's not going to be easy. But I mean to fight this battle as much as I desire to win.
But I must enjoy the fight more than I anticipate winning. The goals can be achieved but the process might be a long and daunting one. And I must, as a matter of necessity, be happy throughout the process till all my goals are achieved.
Don't kill your happiness over the expectations of achieving your goals. It's more important to focus on the system(s) instead of the goal(s).
Thank you for reading.
