Till now I gave Gladys plenty of rope, but by calling in the Army to enforce her irrational edicts she just hoisted all pretence of caring about the public into the air and left it kicking.
Anyone looking at the facts and figures (not what the govt curates for the media) can see this has been a major over-reaction, one that ruins the economy, hurts the poorest in society the most, is not based on expert studies at all, and looks like a power grab to enshrine a dictatorship at the state level.
But how is it that so many influencers and those close to power have forgotten to think critically all at the same crucial time?
I recently watched a brief youtube clip (url unless its been censored)
in which UNSW Economics Professor Gigi Foster made a number of interesting observations about this blinkered mindset.
That it causes large groups to make irrational decisions and blinds them to clear contrary evidence most logical folk can see in the actions of the NSW govt.
What I found interesting was the comparison she made to how similar the mindset is to that held by those in power in the USA during Prohibition years.
The similarities are scary, unenforceable laws, driven by fear hysteria in the media, factual stats selectively used, those in power finding ways around the rules or insulated from the effects by their wealth, escalating use of force to crush protests and possibly the creepiest, mobilising a frightened compliant public to inform on family/friends/neighbours in order to penalise individuals.
Facts are, the Premier has overstepped her authority by trying to curtail our basic freedom of movement. The covid figures do NOT support her actions.
In addition, the death rates most assuredly do not make this a crisis. Combined with this 'variant' being more infectious but less severe and most of our at risk population now vaccinated a responsible Premier would be chastising the media for the fear and hysteria they spin.
Instead she seems determined to don the mantle of despotic ruler allowing no rational discussion, following no expert advice and use force to to quell "disgusting protesters"
Gladys you have our disgust in return. Your failure is complete and you, along with your corrupt cronies should be booted from office asap.
Wake up Australia,
because history shows that the slide to a totalitarian regime happens because the populace ALLOWS it to happen. If the imprisonment of protesters and the army enforcing state-wide house arrests is not enough, you'll hardly notice when people begin to vanish.
