Este famoso gusano es conocido como una plaga que afecta el cogollo de la planta de maíz; se manifiesta desde la etapa de plántula hasta el periodo de madurez, causando daños que pueden originar la pérdida completa de la planta o hasta un 50%.
El nombre científico de este gusano es (Spodoptera frugiperda), es una de las principales plagas de américa latina y no solo ataca el maíz si no también el arroz el sorgo,la soya y al gunas hortalizas cómo el pimentón .
Es importante que en el momento de la siembra se debe realizar un chequeo desde que nace la planta y realizar un buen seguimiento a medida que va desarrollandose de manera que se pueda evitar está plaga.
