Far way back, when you talk about food security in Nigeria, most of our livestock are being imported from neighboring countries; Benin republic, Coutonu to be precised. Then it wasn't a matter arisen because vast existence of rearing Broiler birds wasn't as common as we have it now. Those that are running frozen store for business usually have their dressed chicken imported from the above named country. But currently, frozen chicken is now something you can access at your doorstep or some steps away from your doorsteps.
What really improved the market demand for poultry farm business?
The closure of border by the current President was the first step that gave the poultry farm business a go. Imported of frozen chicken was stopped which gave room for home made chicken product. Home made chicken became surplus and cheaper that even the poor and low class could afford to buy it rear.
Even when the border was opened, People still prefer sticking with buying home made broiler chicken because of its originality. On the part of food security, it is believed that Nigerians consume about one million in tons of chicken in every 365 days of the year with about 29.8% of high demand of chicken meat.
