Hello Hivers.✌✌
So, today i will be sharing a little trick on how to germinate seeds faster.
there are some seeds that take a long time to germinate as a results, these seed seems to be hard to propagate.
most of these seeds have high dormancy period or might have hard coating which keeps them in a dormant state for a long time. so for the seeds to germinate these hard coating or dormant state must be broken before germination can take place. some weather conditions can brake this dormant state like "Heat & Cold".
Plants adapted to the cooler climate (Temperate plants), dormancy can be broken by lower temperature while plants adapted to the hotter climate (Tropical plants), dormancy can be broken by higher temperature.
So, for our experiment, since we are in the tropical region of the world, we will need higher temperature to break this dormancy.
For this trick.
we will need
- some seeds that takes time to germinate,eg peppers, carrots etc.
- paper towel (Serviette)
- 2 flat breakable plates
First we will place the one paper towel on the plate, then place some seeds on it.
second, we will place another paper towel on top of the seeds to cover it.
the, third step is to wet the paper towel( it shouldn't be so wet) just moist or dampen and cover it with the second breakable plate.
For the last step, we will place it under the sun.
The, plates will trap the heat from the sun within it, which is suitable for germination.
The dark environment and adequate heat and moisture of the plate mimics the ideal conditions for seeds to germinate.
Note, when the paper towel starts getting dried, wet it a bit (it should be kept moist always)
