Hello Hivers ✌️✌️
Welcome to my blog!!
So, today I started a little experiment to raise meal worms. Meal worms are insect that can be used to feed animals both reptiles, Poultry and fish, which has an excellent source of insect protein.
A mealworm is not actually a worm at all! It is just one of the four life stages of the darkling beetle, otherwise known by its scientific name, Tenebrio molitor.
There are over 20,000 types of darkling beetles currently known, so you may have run into a few variations.Many of the larvae tend to look quite similar in appearance..
The life cycle of meal worms has four stages which are;
The Egg stage
|
The Larval Stage (this is when it is been used to feed animals)
|
Pupa State
|
Adult state
So to raise these meal worms I need to put them in a container that they won't excape in, then I will cut out the base of the container and screw or gum a net on it. This is to allow the eggs the Beatles will be laying go through to the next layer of substrate underneath it.
Chicken feed is used as the substrate which there will feed on and borrow to lay their eggs in..
