Ok, maybe I oversold it a little…ok ok, a lot. It’s just a sprouted onion with a wire around it really, but MAN, I love hyping things!
It's funny how some things just work out. I posted yesterday, looking for some help naming my random onion plant, and later in the day I found out about this Electroculture community. So I decided to try coiling an antenna wire around the onion to see what happens.
First, I located some scrap wire:
I then stripped both ends:
Then I tinned/soldered the ends to help keep them from fraying over time.
And finally, I coiled the wire around the onion. I started by bending the tinned ends to ~90deg, then shoved one into the onion to hold it while I wrapped. Once it was fully coiled, I bent the other end and shoved it in.
...and that's it! Now we just wait and see what it does...but I'm super tempted to destroy the experiment and just go for max growth by adding a little hydroponic setup into the mix. If I do that, it will not be today, so for now, I'm just sharing this as it is.
To the electroculture gurus here in the community, I have some questions:
- Do you find it matters whether you coil clockwise or counter? (I went clockwise, from the bottom up.)
- Do you typically prefer inserting the wire ends into the plant as I've done here, or is it usually better to just leave them up against it?
, thanks for the cool name, I'm using it - Drawer Punk it is!
Thanks for checking out some more of my work! As always, I hope you enjoyed witnessing as much as I enjoyed creating!

has officially hard-forked.
is now the home for pretty much all acoustic singer/songwriter work.
I created a second account () in May 2023 to be my professional side. It’s a totally separate thing, strictly acoustic playing and singing. Because I don’t want to post duplicate material from two accounts, this account is now the home for all my acoustic singer/songwriter type stuff.
I’ll be using this as my account to share with bars and venues etc., so it will be a home for acoustic covers, live performances and auditions…pretty much, if I’m playing a stringed instrument amd singing, this is where I’ll be doing it…unless I’m doing it while operating a motor vehicle ;)
