I am nearly done with my paint experiment. I am pleased with how this worked out despite the eternal difficulty of painting light colors over dark. Compare the appearance in the image above to my previous update if you like.
I used a strong yellow to add details to the eyes and weapon emitters on these models, and then I dry-brushed orange over the edges to hopefully give a lens gradient and an ambient glow. Then I painted a second later of white over the armor and weapon pieces I wanted to have as a contrast to the metal.
I may need a third thin coat of white to finish the job in some areas, and I would like to run some black ink through the fine details, but this is close to where I want these models to be.
I finished adding sand to all the bases, too. I will need to paint those later, and then add a few embellishment bits like skulls, grass tufts, and extra bitz as battlefield debris.
I may have done more painting today had I not decided to take a 5.2 mile bike ride and then just enjoy sitting in the shade for much of the afternoon. I have no regrets for that choice though. While painting is fun, it can be tedious, and a break from my hobby to unwind from hunching over the project was necessary. My vacation time from the library ends today. I might as well make the most of it.
