There is always something about life in the harbour around departing on a boat. There is just a lot of hussing and buzzing and a lot of movement.
It all starts with the old men who are always sitting there on benches for some reason. They look relaxed even though they were complaining about everything. It is like they are in a cafe but just the outdoors.
Then you have people who are living on their boats and just taking a chill around there. Mechanics walking around because of all the stuff that breaks on boat. Because let's be honest, everything breaks on boat because of using it in harsh circumstances.
Salty water and salty air and big temperature swings are enough to make even the best materialen crack in an instant. And eventually it always will, that is why checking everything on the boat to see if it works is so important. It is so much better to run into the issues on land versus that you get caught be them when you are in rough seas.
So much life!
So many people that are arriving there being so eager to get out on the water. And on the other hand so many people that came back from spending a while on the water who are so satisfied about what they have all experienced but who are also dog tired at the same time.
People who are checking the weather apps to see what the weather will be doing and see how the sailing conditions will be. Excitement but also a bit of healthy fear for if the sea will be friendly to them. And that is a good thing, the sea is no joke and always being a little scared on what is out there makes you think twice before doing stupid stuff while being on the water.
But in the harbour it is all still fine. People stocking up their supplies so they dont have to be back on land for the next couple of days and carrying around tons of provisies.
And that my friends...is just a warm and sticky and not so fun chore I can confirm....
The place goes silent when the sun goes down and the tranquility of rocking boats silenty against the dock is what remains left in the dark. It just like it is a whole other world when the non-harbour people have no idea idea of that it also exists.
Man I love harbour life!!!
