It was morning, with the sun shining bright, a fresh-cool breeze blowing and the birds chirping. Lucy opened her eyes as the warm sun ray greeted her from the opened window adjacent to her bed. Wrapped in sheets, she yawned after which she tried to get out of bed, but James pulled her back to the bed and he whispered some lazy, sweet, and romantic words to her ear which made Lucy grin shyly.
"Morning James, did you sleep well?" Lucy asked
"My night was wonderful all thanks to you. Come here!" James said as he pulled Lucy in for a passionate kiss.
Breaking the kiss, Lucy said, *"We should get up now and get our day started.
"No I wish to stay in bed with you all day I wouldn't mind" James said.
Lucy chuckled and forced herself out of James' arms as she got out of bed. Later James stood up, picked up his pants, and began to smile as he dug his hands into the side pocket of his pants and brought out a tiny velvet-colored box. Looking at the box, he sighed and opened it. Inside the box was a big cut diamond ring sitting perfectly in a cushioned foam made for it. As it glistered, against the early sunlight, James thought of how the ring would look beautiful, massive on Lucy's slim beautiful fourth finger. So he closed the tiny box put on his pants and went downstairs to see what Lucy was up to. Lucy was busy preparing their breakfast when she felt James hug her tight to himself from behind.
"Hey! Food is almost ready. I made pancakes! Hope you are hungry?" Lucy said.
"Mmmmh, I am starving! Let me help set up the table?" James said
Lucy smiled and said, " Of course! Here are the plates"
James took the plates and went to the dining table to set them up. As he continued with the task, he became nervous, thinking if Lucy would say yes if he asked her to marry him or if it is the right time to pop the question? Then he had a flashback of the memories of when Lucy came knocking on his door to return his box of LOVE LETTERS he had sent consecutively to her house thinking Jane was still living there. James loved Jane with all of his heart, he adored, and cherished her but Jane felt differently about him that she left the country without telling him. It broke his heart when he found out Jane left the country, but the universe had other plans for him. Even though he was hurting badly, Lucy showed him what it feels like to be loved passionately without holding back. Then he made up his mind to pop the question after they had finished their breakfast.
"Breakfast all set!" Lucy said
James snapped out of his thoughts and back to being conscious of his environment. After some moments of eating and teasing each other, James fell in love more with Lucy.
"Thank you for the delicious breakfast gorgeous"James complimented Lucy.
Lucy smiled and got up to clear up the dining table when all of sudden, James went down on one knee. He brought out the tiny velvet-colored box and opened it to reveal the massive alluring diamond ring. Lucy gasped and quickly set the
Plates she was holding back on the dining table.
"James, what are you doing?" Lucy asked
"Lucy, the night you came knocking on my door, with my BOX OF LOVE LETTERS that I wrote to Jane, I thought the universe wanted to mock me. It broke my heart that my letters were read by a total stranger. I didn't know, the universe just brought love to my doorstep. I never thought that I was worthy to be loved, but you have shown me unconditional love, you have made me realize that love is simple and not hard or painful as I thought it was with Jane. Lucy Bradley, will you make me the happiest man on earth by accepting to be my wife forever?"
Lucy then knelt in front of James, cupped his face in her small palms, and said, " James Whitmore, it would be my pleasure"
Hearing those words, James quickly slipped the ring on her finger and held it tightly to himself. It was like a dream come true for him and then he said, "I love you Lucy"
Lucy's voice thick with emotions, she said, "I love you James".
Later in the day, James and Lucy went to the mall to get a few things that she needed at home. As Lucy was picking the things she needed into the cart James carried, James felt someone was watching them. He looked around but found no one. Then suddenly a woman with ginger-colored hair walked past Lucy and gave her an intentional shoulder brush. This made Lucy want to confront the woman, but James quickly stepped in and told her to let it go. After James stepped in, he turned around to see if the woman was close by but she had disappeared.
After a few minutes, Lucy and James headed off to go pay for what they had purchased. Getting to the checkout point, James spotted the same woman as they walked closer, he then realized it was Jane Peter, his ex-girlfriend, who left the country without saying a word and breaking his heart in the process. Jane had changed a lot over the past eleven months. She was no longer a blonde because she had dyed her hair to ginger color and she looked like she had been through hell. She was looking unkempt and her clothes made her look homeless.
"Hello my Love" Jane said grinning sheepishly
Looking shocked and confused Lucy said "Jane! Is that you?!"
Jane looked at Lucy offensively as she chewed her bubble aggressively and then she said, "I moved out of the country for a few months and you think it is right to take my man?!"This drew the attention of other people around the counter waiting to check out their things.
"What do you mean?!" Lucy said as her brows furrowed together.
James quickly grabbed Jane by her arm and walked with her to a corner in the mall.
"Don't make a scene here. You and I know that you left me without a word, or even a text to explain why you left. The day you decided to leave the country without telling me anything is the day you lost me. Get that into your thick skull!"
"James! You would speak to me in this manner?! After all, we have been through?!" was Jane's response.
"Don't make me look like the bad guy here. You know what you did to me. All I ever did was love you, treat you right but you throw my love back in my face. Now look here, you see that beautiful woman over there, I'm going to marry her soon and I'd put a ring on her finger already. So I'll advise you to stay out of our way because you don't want to get on Lucy's bad side."
"Is that a threat?!"
"No, but I just predicted a possible future for you if you don't listen"
With that James walked away from Jane and went to join Lucy as they proceeded to pay for their things. Jane looked at Lucy and saw what James saw in her. Then a shining object caught her attention, the diamond ring. At that moment Jane's heart broke into hurtful, regretful million pieces that she sat on the floor, trembling and sobbing bitterly.
Jane began to speak to herself, "I lost James. I lost James. I-I lost James! W-What am I going to do?"
"Ma'am please get up, you are upsetting other customers around here," said one of the sales personnel.
Jane got up and left the Mall. From outside of the mall she saw James display public affection to Lucy and she thought, "I should be the one wearing that massive ring and that should have been me, not Lucy."
