¿Que pasaría si no tuviésemos conciencia de la existencia del tiempo? Si tan solo viviéramos la vida sin calcularla, dejando de lado la cuenta de los años. Viviríamos los cambios de temporada, la caída de las hojas en verano, el florecer del mes de mayo y las marcas de la piel y el color blanco poblando nuestras cabezas como cuestiones que sólo pasan como producto del azar. Estoy convencida de que lo más probable sería que la vida fuese en extremo ligera, llevadera y amena.
What would happen if we weren't aware of time? If we only lived life without measuring it, without counting years. We would live season changes, May's flowers' blooming, skin blemish and white painting our heads, as if they were random events. I am pretty sure that life would be extremely light, liveable, and enjoyable.
Pero el tiempo existe. Está ahí precisamente respondiendo a la necesidad de estructurar la vida, de planificar los días venideros. Le pusieron tiempo a la vida y le confirieron, desde mi parecer, una dualidad suprema: ser tan infinito como efímero a la vez. Han pasado miles de años desde que el hombre cuenta su existencia y pasarán miles más. Es tan efímero que, cuando se pronuncia una palabra que, en el mismo instante que ella está siendo escuchada, otra ya viene a ocupar su lugar y la primera forma parte de aquello que llamamos pasado.
But time exists. It is there to respond to the need to structure life, to plan the coming days. They gave time to a life and conferred, from my perspective, a supreme duality: time is as infinite as ephemeral. It has been thousands of years since humans started counting their existence, and there will be thousands more. The moment is so ephemeral that, when a word is pronounced, by the time that word is being heard, another word is coming to take its place, and the first one becomes part of that thing we call past.
El tiempo tiene miles de jugadas bajo la manga y nosotros siempre andamos intentando ir a la par de él, bailar su mismo ritmo, sin atropellos pero tampoco quedándose detrás ¡Vaya desafío! Aún así es divertido, interesante, retador y aleccionador. El tiempo nos invita a bailar infinitos sabores y si somos lo suficientemente pícaros lograremos sacarle una que otra vuelta de más; sentir que lo tenemos en nuestras manos para luego en el giro menos esperado volver a estar tras sus pasos.
Time has tons of cards up his sleeve and we are always trying to keep up with him, we try to dance to his rhythm, avoiding stumbles, without lagging behind. What a challenge! Still it is fun, interesting, challenging, and sobering. Time invites us to dance infinite flavors and, if we are rogue enough, we could have a couple songs more with him; we could feel like we have him in our hands, just to realize in the next turn that we are after him.
Ponerse a pensar en el tiempo...¿Cuánto tiempo nos lleva cualquier cosa? Siendo cualquier cosa hasta lo más cotidiano como lavar un plato o saltar la cuerda ¿Cómo percibo el tiempo cuando lavo un plato y cómo mientras salto una cuerda? ¿Cuánto tiempo me puede llevar un suspiro? ¿Cuántos movimientos pueden haber en un minuto? ¿Cuanto rato puedo esperar su llegada? Al hablar del tiempo no puedo evitar aludir a la espera, pero ese es otro asunto a tocar que justo ahora puede quedar tapizado por las ideas del tiempo.
Thinking about Time… How much time takes us to do anything? Anything like the most ordinary things, such as washing the dishes or jumping the rope. How do I perceive time wjen I wash the dishes or when I jump the rope? How many movements can be made in a minute? How long can I wait for its arrival? When I talk about Time I can't avoid thinking of the wait, but that's another topic that could be buried by the ideas about Time.
El tiempo y sus artilugios; su capacidad para parecer que volara mientras hacemos aquello que nos agrada o su facilidad para pausarse en momentos que parecen infinitos: junto a un amor soñado o en medio de situaciones de ansiedad, temor o desagrado. Aparece en cada ápice de la vida, detrás de toda puerta que abrimos, para ir en contra o a nuestro favor.
Time and its contraptions; its ability to make it seem like it flies while we do what we enjoy, or it's facility to pause in moments that seem infinite: being around a dreamt love or in the middle of anxiety, fear or disgust. It shows up in every apex of life, behind every door we open, to go against or in favor of us.
Los movimientos con relación al tiempo, en su mismo carácter de dualidad, llegan a transmitir sensaciones disonantes. Para quien los realiza los movimientos lentos pueden sentirse agobiantes, infinitos, pausados, mientras que para aquel que los ve pueden resultar serenos, limpios y delicados. Los rápidos por su parte pueden sentirse atropellados y feroces para unos y para los otros consecuencia de una reacción en cadena.
Time related movements, on their dual character, tend to transmit dissonant sensations. To those who move slowly, it may feel oppressive, infinite, paused; but to thos who watch, it may feel calm, clean, delicate. The fast moves, on the other hand, may feel hasty and fierce for some; but for others it may feel like the consequence of a chain reaction.
Aquello que va lento nos permite pensar detenidamente cómo estamos haciendo cada cosa. Lo rápido nos desarrolla la agilidad para resolver fácilmente situaciones. En este sentido ambos polos construyen muchísimo en el ser. En cuanto a la escena, confieren atmósferas que nutren de matices el campo visual. De esta manera se equilibra aquello que se aprecia y de alguna forma permite al espectador hacerse parte de lo que ocurre.
Slowness allows us to think carefully about how we are doing each thing. Fastness allows us to develop agility to solve situaciones easily. In this sense, both poles improve the body. In terms of scenery, both confer atmospheres that feed tones in the visual aspect. This is how the things that are behold are balanced, and make the spectator part of what's going on.
El equilibrio no es estático. Precisamente el tiempo tiene esa capacidad de siempre estar en movimiento y con ello mantener en equilibrio el balance natural de la vida.
Balance is not static. Precisely Time has that capacity of being permanently in movement and that's how it creates the natural balance in life.
