Dude, everybody knows about the electrodes up the butt. We’ve all been there. How else were they supposed to check your vitals? Stop complaining about it. At least, I got you out of there. And for the last time, yes, I am a human being. I don’t look like an ape because like all sane humans, my ancestors had to alter their biology to adapt to climactic conditions. Look around you, this ice cap extends all the way to the country we used to call Mexico. This place was the Nevada desert for goodness sake. Look up at that gray sky, we haven’t seen the sun in nearly a century. So what were the remaining non-fused humans supposed to do, wear fur coats and eat snow? Fur was great technology in its time, but nothing beats a good dose of altered neon coursing through your veins. For that to work, we needed to make a few changes to our plumbing.
I know what you're thinking: are we, the non-fused, still human in spite of our morphological change? Or are we, like the fused, another species? All academic at this point. So what if we altered our biology to adapt? Inside we are as primate as they come. The fused ones became another species the moment they neurally merged with AI. I can assure you, human they are not. That’s not why we struggle against them, however. They have every right to exist, but not at our expense, so we have decided to push back. It wasn’t us the ones who released the aerosols to blot out the sun. It was them. Warmth is detrimental to their growth and expansion. So once they learned to harness orbital power cores, they didn't need the sun anymore. Fifty years from now Earth will be a frozen sphere barren of life save for the fused in their icy realm. I don’t know about you, but to me that sounds pretty boring, even if its the natural progression of things.
So this is where you come in, Dr. Night. We rescued you because unlike the fused, we want to give you the choice: to remain human or become another species altogether. We won’t stop you if you choose the latter. Though I would think you’d feel at least a little bit responsible for the situation- after all, it was you who published the work that led to this outcome. Regardless, we still believe in that archaic human notion called freedom of choice.
Who are we you ask? We are the ones who are standing in the darkness against the encroaching cold. Scattered in temperate pockets across the planet, we form a global warming union- the last of the sapiens. Don’t laugh. I’m serious. Maybe you’re not convinced by my story, but I want you to meet someone who will make a believer out of you.
