Little update: A big thanks to those who are following this story so far! In case you are wondering, this is a self-written story (an amateur attempt I know) during the days when I was fascinated by the stuff about knights, castles, kingdoms and sorcery, you get what I mean. For those who wish to check out the previous chapters, here's the link! With that let the adventure continue!
Chapter 45
The sun exuded its last rays for the day, as it edged down in the distant horizon. Rak, Moya and Malcolm had merged with Wayne's team in their run to the opening in the wall. Malcolm led the group of eight, while Rak and Moya took turns to slow the skeletal warriors with their crystals and spells. At the top of the wall, Edward was running along with them and looking out for any possible danger in the distance ahead.
"There! I can see it!" shouted Malcolm.
The rest of them looked closer and indeed, there was an opening that was just small enough for them to pass through. Looking at the remaining amount of skeletal warriors, Wayne suggested fighting them off before they entered the city. Displaying his remarkable set of skills, Wayne almost single-handedly cleared the rest of skeletal warriors.
As they entered the city via the hole, Rak suddenly shouted to Edward, "Edward, did you see any signs of the Perisher or the skeletal sabre far away?"
"No, there's nothing. Besides, it's getting dark and I can't see that far either."
Rak announced to the group, "I have to go. I need to find our saviour."
"Who's that?" asked Moya.
"It's so late. Won't it be dangerous to go out alone?" added Malcolm.
"I agree. How about we set off as a group tomorrow morning?" suggested Wayne.
Earlier, Rak had promised Maltov not to give away his identity so he did not know how to answer the barrage of questions.
Rak replied with a serious look on his face, "Look, I've got to go! I'll be fine."
Then he sprinted into the darkness, with his pouch of crystals jingling behind, leaving the rest of them flummoxed.
The rest of them entered the city and made their way towards the castle. On the way, they introduced themselves to one another. It came as a pleasant surprise for Moya and Edward to know that Wayne was one of the sons. Meanwhile, Edward had informed King Welrock and the rest, who were hiding in the chambers, that it was safe to come out at the moment. Upon knowing that there were guests, King Welrock invited them for supper. As the night wore on, the King and Queen chatted with the rest and expressed their gratitude towards their heroic acts.
Finally, King Welrock said, "It's been a long and tiring day for all of you. I shan't eat too much into your rest time. I hope you will like your stay here."
Malcolm was the first to stand up from his seat, and the rest followed behind as they made their way back to their rooms.
On the stroke of midnight, a loud commotion outside the castle grounds woke everyone up. Moya and Edward raced to the entrance and saw Selera and a few groups of soldiers in front of the gate.
Selera shouted at the top of her lungs, "We have lost Iglius! Ariton and his skeletal warriors will be here any moment!"
