Little update: A big thanks to those who are following this story so far! In case you are wondering, this is a self-written story (an amateur attempt I know) during the days when I was fascinated by the stuff about knights, castles, kingdoms and sorcery, you get what I mean. For those who wish to check out the previous chapters, here's the link! With that let the adventure continue!
Chapter 48
Conquering Iglius was not part of the plans, but Ariton was left with no choice as Doria had no more soldiers to resist his troops' attacks. Since the Perisher did not attempt to make any contact with him, Ariton decided to take things into his own hands.
Between Iglius and the castle was a stretch of no man's land. In the darkness, the strip of barren land looked like any other stretch of land in various parts of Doria. Let down by fatigue and complacency, Ariton had no suspicions and urged his skeletal warriors to push forward. Little did he know that the people of Drogo were all prepared for the arrival of their enemies.
When the time was right, the command was given and nets were activated. Ariton and his skeletal warriors were caught by surprise and a considerable amount of the troops were trapped in the nets. Thinking that was all, Ariton continued his advance towards the castle. However, there was another round of booby traps and this time, Ariton was incensed.
He gathered his energies and casted the Inferno spell. Boulders of fire rained down the sky and the place was illuminated. Through the corner of his eye, he spotted a group of human beings hiding in a makeshift tent.
"Anyone or anything that hinders my advance will be pulverised!" Ariton announced, before sending a series of destructos towards the tent and it caused an explosion in the tent.
Within seconds, the people from Drogo were blasted to bits.
In the darkness, Ariton saw the castle slowly come into view.
"Charge!" bellowed Ariton.
The skeletal warriors, together with Ariton and his battlefiends, roared and shrieked in terror as they stomped their way forward. Once they reached the castle, Ariton smashed open the large wooden door, allowing the skeletal warriors to charge in. The battlefiends flew over the castle walls and sought to pulverise any humans they saw. The expectations of any incoming confrontations were dashed when Ariton and his troops realised there was nobody left in the castle. Facing no resistance, Ariton took over the castle effortlessly and proudly sat on the throne.
His months of labour have paid off and he was the rightful king of Doria.
The Perisher led his final batch of skeletal warriors into the castle and he found Ariton sitting comfortably in the throne.
"Where have you been, my Lord? I thought you weren't coming." Ariton asked slyly, slightly displeased by the Perisher's appearance.
"I was delayed at the north gate."
He paused, before speaking again, "I don't remember asking you to take over the city."
"Selera's troops retreated from Iglius and I gave chase. One thing led to another..."
The Perisher snapped, "Enough of your story-telling. Now I'm the King and it's time you get yourself off the comfortable seat at the throne."
"I thought the one who does all the work gets to be the king."
The moment he finished his sentence, Ariton grabbed his battleaxe and leapt straight at the Perisher.
